So Perso (rear left leg amputee from osteo) and I were at the vet Monday and there were some ladies in the waiting room. They were commenting on how handsome Perso is and such. They asked how old he is and is he is going to get any bigger. I said he's 3.5 and no he wont get any bigger. But what I THOUGHT about saying was he wont get any bigger but we are still waiting for his leg to come in. I thought it was hilarious but I decided not to say anything because I didn't know how they would react. I've also thought about saying something when the vet brings him back out to me in the waiting room like, Perso! You had four legs when we got here! Hahaha. Has anyone ever given a funny response when people ask about your pets leg? Thanks!

I have a cute story, but not involving our vets.....I have a good friend with a 4 year old cute little boy, and he came to visit once or twice before and after my Polly had her amp surgery. I also have a sweet cat, Autumn that lost her eye several years ago when my black Lab Maggie snapped at her. Well, Charlie could not believe that Autumn actually lost her eye so he went all over my house looking for her eye, and said he would find it and put it back where it belonged. When Polly had her amp surgery, you can imagine the fun we had looking all over the house for her leg to put it back as well !! Sweet and funny memories are really good for me now.....

When my then eight year old grandson first saw Murphy after his amp, he said,"Well, at least he doesn't have to lift his leg to pee anymore.". Out of the mouths of babes.

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!
UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!

I imagine if anyone ever asked me about Steve's leg, I'd give them the same answer I gave people when I was in a sling. It happened in a sky diving accident...my chute never opened. People believed me and the looks on their faces were priceless!! I'd love to tell people that Steve is the official Spokescat of the Red Bull Extreme Sports Team!
Right rear leg amp due to injury from unknown cause (but don't tell her she's missing her spare...yes HER!)

I actually did joke when Maggie came out of amputation surgery "what happened to my dog, she just went in for a nail trim". The looks on everyone's face was priceless. Then on her next visit to the vet I made her a fake leg and told the vet the supplements were so good she grew her leg back. It's seems like joking is the best way for me to deal with everything.

Good one gang!!! Love the quick, funny responses.. I have had a few.. not that I am sarcastic or anything... hahahahahahah 
I did have a good one at the groomers... When I took Franklin for his "spa day" as a tripawd... The groomer is actually at a vet's office.. but not my vet..
Laurie.. our groomer.. who loved Franklin to bits, brought him out and I said.. "Holy crap Laurie.. I told you to clip him close, but not that close.. he had four legs when he came in here. I hope I get a 25% discount now!!"
The look on the people in the waiting room was priceless... we still laugh about that one... I gave her a Tripawd calendar...
And a really good one at my vets.. there was an older senior couple in the waiting room with a little puffy doggie.. you know the kind.. the kleenex box kind!! lol I brought Franklin in for a bandage change after his amputation and the guy said to his little doggie.. "Look.. that's what happens when you chase cars" in the most annoying smoochy, cutsie voice. I just calmly said.. "nah.. good dog like him, you can't eat him all at once... "

I remember seeing that on one of the Tripawds t-shirts and it just blurted out. I then explained it was NOT chasing cars that he was recovering from cancer... I can still see their faces though.. hahahahahahaha
One of the best ones though is when he was getting his leg amputated and I said.. "we should get his leg cremated and take it home... then.. when that time comes.. as it does for all our pets.. we could put the two together, shake him up and he would be whole again!!" people just looked at me weird... geesh!
Gawd.. I miss that dawg.....

Franklin, he was the Happiest Dog on Three Legs! Diagnosed 09/26/2012 with Osteosarcoma, amputated 12/4/2012. Had a wonderful 5 1/2 months painfree until he ran for the Bridge on 5/15/2013.
