Baxter's hair is soft, almost oily- it looks crazy wild. Mike usually "styles" it in a mohawk. It collects a little bit of everything he passes! Bits and pieces of outdoors, food, fabric fuzz- he's a walking forensic evidence collector for each day. He absolutely must have a bath every week.
He was due for his Sunday bath the night he hurt his leg, but didn't get one because I knew he wasn't feeling good so he's way overdue for one. We've tried washing just his face to keep his beard clean, but he really needs a full blown bath right now. He's never smelly, just dirty.
Our other two dogs can go weeks upon weeks without a bath and still look and smell fresh. We were spolied at how easy their smooth coats were to maintain. But Baxter is a good sport about all the baths- treats help the process move along.
I hope it's not wrong to say this, but I'm really enjoying this site. I'm so glad I found this place!!!
He probably is finding his center of balance, you'll see that most of us front leggers do turn our remaining front paw in just a bit. As long as it doesn't appear the way Carter's leg looks (poor guy!), he's probably just fine!

Baxter had most of his stitches removed at his check-up yesterday and we are on his last day of antibiotics. He goes back Friday to remove the last few stitches. He is also wrap free!! It's kind of scary, his incision being unprotected. He seems to be feeling the freedom. He's crazy hyper!
His incision looks amazingingly well. His belly skin is really scabby from the tape pulling the skin off- poor sweetie! His little skin is so thin under there and the tape did a number on him.
He got the ok for a bath. And yep, I gave him one last night. He has sticky glue residue where the wrap was and man, it's not coming off. Any ideas out there on getting it off? We tried the soap when he was bathed and vaseline afterwards, but he's still sticky. Any ideas will be welcome.....
martha stewart would say try a little mineral oil, gently rubbed. don't want anything too harsh. glad baxter is doing so much better and is 'out of the wrap'!!
charon & gayle
Life is good, so very, very good!!! Gayle enjoyed each and every moment of each and every wonderful day (naps included). She left this world December 12, 2011 – off on a new adventure.
Love Never Ends
OH, that is just sensational! He's a new dog, with a bath and all! Good-bye dirty dog!
Rocket the Monkeybutt - his hair is more like a rat's nest! It reminds me of cheap doll's hair we had as kids...you brush it and brush it and 3 minutes later, it's looks like the same as it did before it was brushed!
Way to go Baxter!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Oh,
If you enjoy the site now, just wait until the monkeydogs start picking on Baxter! There is an all out war between monkeydogs and tripawds! Silly monkeydogs will do anything to get attention!

Hooray for Baxter. I was also going to suggest mineral oil. Hopefully that will do the trick.

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
I thought of you Baxter, when just a few minutes ago I read that tea tree oil is a harmless solvent that removes gum and sticky residue. Try it!
