Today, we adopted this little 1.5 year old guy (Tanner) from the same rescue my Jake adopted me from 12 years ago.
I wasn't sure about getting another dog so soon, but I couldn't leave a Tripawd behind :). Tanner lost his rear leg after being hit by a car six months ago. He's quite a spunky little guy. I'm going to leave my Jake as my avatar, because I think he had his paw in this one.

Oh my, Tanner! Have you met Shelby? You two could be looking in a mirror.
As we know at our house, those young Tripawds due to accidents do amazingly well. We hope to get to know more about Tanner.
Kathi and Murphy
Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!
UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!
That DOES look like my girl (if my girl is the Shelby you were talking about)!!!
There is a special place for you - God bless you for rescuing a tripawd. Tanner is adorable!!! I am so happy he found his forever home with you!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
Oh! Oh! Oh! Congratulations, I'd say that Jake definitely had a paw in this one.
What a lucky, lucky pup to have you come into his life. Thank you for giving Tanner a chance at an amazing, loving home! We can't wait to hear more about your adventures together!!!

He IS a cutie. So glad he was so lucky to find a loving home. And so glad you were lucky to find such a sweetie.
Adelaide is a young tripawd Husky, from an injury. Her amp was on 10/1/12. She has 4 sisters, Aissa (a senior border collie/chow), Maggie May (a puppy Great Pyrenees), Mathilde and Morrigan and 1 baby brother, Bagheera. We are all watched over by our angel Brendol, who was dx with OSA 1/30/13, amp on 2/6/13, and left us on 8/20/13.

Good job! The timeline for Gerry coming home after I lost Yoda was very similar - except I didn't let myself think I was doing more than fostering him at first. I know some folks don't get how you can connect with a new dog that fast, unless your connection to your previous dog was somehow "less." But it's not so at all!!! Whether it's fate, or coincidence or a match made by your angel dog, it was just the right dog at the right time.
Congrats on Tanner rescuing you!

Gerry has been a tripawd since 12/16/2009.
He was a shelter dog with a mysterious past and an irrepairable knee injury.

Oh, I hope no one thinks that my adopting Tanner meant my connection to Jake was "less". The thought of that brings tears to my eyes. I still cry over him and I will miss him for eternity. I saw this little guy posted online needing a home and I thought why not. I have a nice place, a family who adores dogs and experience with a tripawd. He doesn't make me miss my Jake any less, or make his death any easier, and he'll never ever replace him. There are so many special needs dogs needing homes and shelters are no place them (or any dog).

Oh my gosh no way, nobody here would think that and if anyone in your life does, well sorry for them! The fact that you are able to open your heart to a Tripawd in need shows that Jake taught you well about sharing your capacity for love in this world. What a beautiful way to carry on his legacy. We can't wait to hear more about Tanner.

Absolutely not !!! Your love for Jake is still very present and like Jerry said, you are able to open your heart and home to another tripawd is an amazing gift! I meant it when I said you are very special soul! Tanner is absolutely precious and he is sooooooo lucky to have found a forever home with you and Jake is guiding you along the way. Lots of love all around! XOXO

Ack! Sorry, Elizabeth, I should have kept my trap shut. Probably just my bad luck that I was getting that from (though well meaning) people.
