Yesterday was 4 weeks since Daisy's amputation.  The recovery was pretty uneventful other than she wanted to sleep alot which is normal.  Finally getting back to our normal routine.  She's slowly starting to do some of her usual stuff like using the couch for her face towel (or my pant leg) and hanging outside watching the world go by.  Hanging outside was one of her favorite things to do and she hadn't wanted to stay out without me until a few days ago.

Today we go for our second trip to the dog park since her surgery.  We always went every Saturday morning and I know she missed going.  We go with our neighbor -- her favorite buddy Splash.  She's really missed him since they haven't been able to do their normal evening walks since Thanksgiving and they love hanging out together.  They've been buddy's since Daisy was four months old!  She doesn't have much stamina yet so we hop in and just kind of hang out.  Hopefully some day she'll be able to run and play out there again like she used to.

Happy ampuversary Daisy!

Enjoy watching the world and getting out with your best buddy. I hope you'll be running and playing again soon!
All the best,
Jackie, Abby's mom

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

Wow, a whole month already? Time flies when you're getting well and being all normal and everything! Congratulations to Daisy! So happy to find another human who is also a leg napkin.

Good for you Daisy!

How does she like the dog park?  Tate didn't really like playing with other dogs after his amp (except for Little Sister Sam) but still loved just hangin' with his best pack friends.

Daisy loves the dog park but never had much to do with any other dogs even before her amp.  She just plays with her friend Splash and sister Matti and ignores the rest of 'em.  The park also has some woods and she likes to roam around in there.

She did growl at Matti a few days ago when Matti was sniffing at her scar.  I guess she's a little touchy about it.  Maybe always will be.

I think dogs sense that others think they are a bit vulnerable with a missing leg, so they let others know that they're not by reacting when another dog gets too close to the surgery area. That's not unusual.

Congrats on the big ampuversary! It is definitely a milestone when you get out of the recovery phase. WOo hoo!
