Hi there,
Alfredo is coming up on two years post-amputation. He's always had a nervous stomach and vomits somewhat frequently. I had him on Blue Wilderness Basics, but he decided he hated it and barely ate and got VERY thin, so I switched him to some kitten food (for now, but we'll see--he's putting weight back on).
Long story short, he started doing this heaving thing as if he was throwing up, but he never throws up. I'm worried something is wrong with his respiratory system, sometimes his meowing sounds odd and he snores a little more while sleeping??? It's just odd. Of course Google makes me think he's got some lung issues or blockage or whatever. A friend of mine said she thought it sounded like a reverse sneeze.

I have some time coming up and will probably take him to the vet, but wanted to get some feedback here first. Unfortunately we put the poor guy through a LOT with amputation and chemo, so I'm constantly paranoid about a NEW serious issue because I don't know that we could put him through any future serious procedures.

Im of course not a vet, but it looks to me like Alfredo is having a asthma attack. Which is treatable.
OMG poor buddy. I wondered if that was it, my sister-in-law told me her cat had a similar situation and they got an air purifier. I'll check out that link, thanks!
That will help the air purifier. No fragrance in your laundry soap and dryer. Dust and fragrance can make things worse.
Seasonal allergies all those things can set things off. Just some input! Happy almost 2 years ampuversary too!

That might actually make sense. We moved last May into a house with a dog (new for him) and hardwood floors (lots of dust collecting in corners) and open doors fairly often.. a big change of environment for him. The timing seems right to develop these new symptoms.
yes, again not a vet but I suspect its asthma, I would still have him looked at.😬 I hate saying that when you do not want to go already . Just what I would do 😉
It can be mild and possibly no treatment but preventives but you want them to tell you that of course. There are treatments if needed! It is manageable!

Glad your getting him checked out. The video is EXACTLY what a Vet would need to see.
That said, everything that one of our Kitty Whisperers said, plus her video, sure does look like asthma/allergy!! TREATABLE! You da' bomb Holly!

Made an appointment with a cats-only clinic! I'm new to SoCal and had to provide all his previous vet info from Arizona.. OMG. What a high-maintenance guy. But I wouldn't have it any other way. I will let you know how it goes!

I agree with Holly. Probably asthma or seasonal allergies. I seem to remember another cat here doing the same thing but I don't recall the outcome.
Recently a blog was posted on texting a vet. That might be helpful for you because you could sent the video. Does anyone know the link?
Please let us know the outcome. I hope it resolves soon. Lots of scratches for him please!

This time of year it is most likely asthma and your vet should take an xray to see how severe it is. Many cats need at least a short course of prednisolone although some also need a bronchodilator. In severe cases an inhaler can be used but at least in my part of the country (Seattle) that is rare.

Checking in with an update. Unfortunately Fredo's situation is NOT asthma, it's metastasized cancer in his lungs, according to an x-ray. So, horrible news. I'm feeling a little numb right now, lots of feelings. I can't say I am surprised, although I was hopeful it was something less severe. We're going to make him comfortable for now, but the vet didn't think we'd have him much longer than six months, at the most. Thank you all for your input before.. I wish asthma has been the case.
