If you see my dog story Gemma's journey in forums. She had a right hind amputation on Monday 3/23. On Tues night had a unexplained bleed that looked arterial, due to squirting nature. Emergency surgery was done to find bleed. Nothing located. Weds. After some blood product replacement and fluids. Gemma turned over from good side. And a moderate pool of blood found underneath. Checked again for source. (No surgery) nothing found. They stated she had the most corrlateral vessels they have seen. What are we looking at?????

If the blood is red it is probably fresh and there is probably a bleeder somewhere. It can be frustrating to find since anesthesia will lower the blood pressure so that the vessels stops bleeding until the dog wakes up again. These are often smaller vessels in the muscle. If a compression wrap has not helped they can look at a coag panel but if you saw something squirting then another surgery is probably in order.
