Shine is almost at the 2 week ampuversary! 
he's doing well, but I'm wondering if I'm letting him be too playful? He's 12 weeks now, but sometimes when he's jumping around he lands on his amputated shoulder wrong and whines a bit. It's not really a yelp, just a short, quick whine. He's a very "talkative" pup anyway, just wondering if I should wait a little longer to let him run around the way he does. He jumps up on things too and it scares me a bit! :/

Oh, geez, well your little pup is still so little and young and has that puppy PLUS Aussie energy! I don't know. I partly feel that they will tell you when enough is enough, but I also know that dogs will push themselves. Jackson and I find each other battling this out ourselves (granted, he's an older guy of 8, not 12 weeks!). I guess I restrict him when I can (length of our walk), but I let him regulate within the limits (speed of walk). If he wants to play OK, but I let him chose the type and speed and duration.
Are there some activities you and Shine CAN do together that met both needs: playful, yet more subdued? For us, fetch is more active for Jackson, but wrestling is more calm ("wrestling" = mouth mom's hair, arms, and pass through legs and arms).

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12. Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ! No side effects. We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments. He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors! Our love. Our funny little guy!
I would try to wait 2 more weeks before returning to full activity but it is hard to slow down a puppy!!

Speaking from personal experience, I really limited activity most when it came to Bert being around other dogs. He isn't a big fetch player or runner anyway, he mostly prefers to chew on a cow hoof or bone when he is on his own but he gets crazy when he is around other dogs. We did really minimal activity until staples came out, 10 days post op, and for the next 3 weeks or so I didn't let him play with his doggie friends. After that I just kept a close eye on him while he was playing and if I thought he was being a little too rough I would separate him and give him something to do quietly, like one of his favorite stuffed things or a bully stick to chew on. Sometimes pups will push themselves too hard without really noticing until they wind up painful later on, so i would just keep a close eye, which it seems like you are. Also I'm not sure if you are already doing this but I would only play on a carpeted area, so falls will have some cushioning. Hope this helps! Congrats on Shine!
