Hi all! First post, glad to find this community!
My pup is 5 years old, she lost her left front leg at 6 months after an accident. At about 3 I was told she may have some arthritis (she was having some soreness) but with diet and supplements we have really been successful in managing her pain. This week I am visiting home and she has been playing a lot with her "cousin", my sister's dog. Today she has a lot of swelling behind her shoulder blade from her elbow up to her neck- it feels like it's full of fluid. I iced it for a bit, but it didn't seem to make a difference. I'm really nervous as we haven't experienced this before. I'm planning to take her to the vet if it's not better by tomorrow, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue. It seems like a lot of people on here have older tripawds, I thought it might be a good place to ask.

Hey there and welcome! What's your doggie's name? She looks like a lot of fun!
Sorry that she's got that swelling going on. I have no idea what it could be but hopefully our Fairy Vet Mother Dr. Pam will be able to reply and give you some insight. Is she showing any pain signs, like pulling away when you touch the area? How is her appetite?
Please review these Dog Pain Signals to see if she's giving off any. Remember that dogs and cats show pain much differently than we do.
My best non-vet advice to you is to be proactive and take her in as soon as you are able. It sounds like she had some sort of sprain from all that playtime, and her vet can reassure you about what to do to help her feel better. It's probably nothing serious but you'll sleep better if you have her vet examine her.

That is not normal so I would take her in ASAP. If there is fluid it could be a hematoma from rough play but a seroma would be unlikely. Most dogs would experience soft tissue swelling in a joint such as elbow or wrist if it was a sprain. Sometimes insect bites can cause local hypersensitivity reactions as can mast cell tumors but the location is still odd.
Your vet could take a fluid sample and look at it in the clinic to give you a better idea what is going on.
