My 8 year old male cat Kaju had amputation of his shoulder joint (scapula was not taken out) on 21st September following 3 months of treatment to treat a persistent wound on the stump of his right foreleg. Post surgery, most of the surgical wound healed quickly and well except a triangular area where there was a lot of tension. I'm attaching a link with photos on 4th, 9th nad 20th October of the wound. His vet feels we should wait for the wound to heal and become smaller with dressing (topical antibiotic and granulox spray after debridement with granudacyn gel every 3 days). My cat has been wearing a collar for so long and getting depressed. I want a speedy healing and maybe restitching is the way to go. Wanted an opinion from a vet on this as it's already been a month post surgery.

Thanks for asking here. I'm looking forward to Dr. Pam's insight.

I think it would have been easier to resuture on 10/4 based on that photo. Looking at the photo from 10/20 there is a healthy bed of granulation tissue with smooth pink edges; you would have to remove all of that thicker tissue in order to try and close now and then you will have more tension. You could try honey wraps (would need a whole body wrap over the thorax and shoulder) and then maybe the cat would not need a collar.
