Hi Pam - I got the Power Mushrooms as you suggested and the onco was fine with. I'm wondering if fatigue could be a side effect. I don't see that mentioned as a side effect anywhere. What do you think? Duke def seems more tired than usual. For his wt the suggestion is for 2-3 tabs 2-3x's/day. Because he has a sensitive digestive system I started him at 1 once/day, then 1 twice/day, and now have him at 2 twice/day. I got Health Concerns brand. I frankly think I noticed some fatigue right away... but there have been so many things going on it is hard to tell.
I have also added Rx Vitamins for Pets Nutrigest for his digestive issues at the suggestion of the new onco. That went on board before the power mushrooms and I didn't notice anything.
I am also switching him ever-so-slowly from Healthwise Chicken and Oatmeal to Honest Kitchen Embark. He is loving it and that is going well from a digestive perspective. Could that be the problem? I have not added meat to the Honest Kitchen yet. Maybe he needs more protein?
Anyway, he does seem more tired than usual. Maybe he is worn out and sick of this whole mess. Maybe I just projecting because I know for sure I am! And he has been on antibiotics now since 6/11 - but seemingly with no side effects. His being tired has me concerned. Honestly, while this wound heals resting isn't a bad thing. And on that front, I do see some slow progress. I have done the laser 4-5 times in the past two weeks, and have started the honey bandages (finally!), and insulin mixed with silver sulfadiazine (something my vet has seen some research supporting). I do either the insulin or the honey each bandage change. Usually the honey because it is faster, easier to get on the wound, and doesn't soak the dressing so badly.
I haven't started Arte yet, feel like I need to put one thing on at a time to avoid stomach upset. That's next on the list.
Any guidance will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Duke, I hope you get your spunk back. I wouldn't doubt if the events of the last several weeks have taken their toll, in addition to any warm weather you might be experiencing.
Hang in there Ma, I hope he perks up. I have only hear the opposite about power mushrooms....that dog's get energetic after taking them, so although I'm no vet, I'm pretty convinced it's not the mushrooms.
Hope you find an answer soon! Wish I could be of more help.

I have not noted lethargy with any patients I have placed on Power Mushrooms although I suppose that is possible. You would have to stop them to know for sure. It is more likley that the antibiotics are the culprit; some dogs develop anorexia or just seem more tired if they have to take antibiotics for a few weeks or longer.
Pam

Thanks Pam and Jerry. Sounds like it probably isn't the mushrooms. It must be something else - or a combo of things. Poor dog has really been through it. I know the Gabapentin makes him tired, but he seems even more tired recently. I hadn't realized it might be the antibiotics. If it is them, he is looking at another 4 weeks of those I'm afraid (and I'd say that's an optimistic estimate) before we can get off of them. Guess we just keep moving forward and hope the lethargy will clear when I can back him off some of the meds.
Thanks for your response!
