How much is too much? I think my 9 day post op Lab may be suffering from side effects. She is crying out and wimpering but when I check her I cannot re-create the pain anywhere. She is on Tramadol 50 mg every 5 hrs, Gabapentin 200 mg 3X day and Rimadyl 75 mg 2 X day.
Help, any suggestions??
She did great immediate post op, but the meds were added on over the past week because they thought her pain was worse, and that puzzled the surgeon who thought she should be doing better with the pain.
Grateful for every moment we had with Paris…..no regrets!

I would try to reduce the dose of Tramadol to 1 or 2 tabs given 2 or 3 times daily and see what happens. Rimadyl shouldn't cause anything other than nausea or GI upset so you can continue that and I would also keep up the Gabapentin since your dog could be experiencing phantom pain . If lowering the dose of Tamadol makes your dog worse then I would consider a Fentanyl patch.

I wanted you to know that I immediately started weaning Paris off the meds until this past weekend when she was off everything. Oh my gosh between no drugs and her staples coming out we had our girl back with us. No more crying out! Playful too.
She had her first chemo today, she "continues to defy the odds". Her labs, chest x-ray are clean so they feel she is a good candidate.
Tired tonight, but otherwisw no side eefects noted. Thanks again for your reply in our time of need.
