There may be nothing to link the two but my 14 year old tripawd has lost her bark 6 months post surgery.  I do not know if there is any correlation or not. We have taken her to the vet and had her chest and neck xray for tumors and she is totally clear. He thought it might be a sore throat so she is on antibiotics but it has been almost 2 weeks now. I am getting very worried.

any advice would be greatly appreciated

Ohhhh poor puppy! I'm so sorry, I can imagine how scared you must be. I'm glad that you saw your vet though. Does she have any other symptoms? I can't recall this ever happening with another member but maybe there's someone out there who has experience with it. Hugs to you both! I hope she gets her bark back soon!

Cancer can affect the larynx but that is not a normal place for OSA to metastasize.  Inflammation is a more common cause of vocal problems.  Is your dog also coughing?

She is not really coughing just lost her bark, we tried antibiotics and and xray and came up with nothing. Yesterday we had an MRI and a scope and they found a mass on her larynx-they biopsied and we will know tomorrow or monday if it is malignant. They doctors said it was very concerning. There is a small chance it is the osteosarcoma. It could also be another type of cancer or just a benign tumor. I am praying for benign obviously....my poor baby has been through so much! Please keep her in your thoughts

It is with a heavy heart that I reply to this post, poor Athena had osteosarcoma mets in her larynx. I guess this is a rare place for it to happen. We made the hard choice to let her go today:( She was not able to breathe well and the options were a tracheotomy and leave the cancer or remove her entire larynx and there were a whole host of complications and minimal hope with that too. It was tough but she was such a trooper and the love of my life so I had to let her go and be pain free. :(

Oh nooooo! I'm so sad to hear this, my heart goes out to you, I can't even imagine the shock you must be experiencing right now. In all our years we've never heard of this situation occurring.

Please know that if you'd like to come back and post in Coping with Loss to talk about your life with Athena, we are here for you and would love to share memories with you.

My deepest condolences, I'm so very sorry.
