Still trying to shed "Frankie" of his rescue name and replace with a good "forever home name"......
Anywa...he's a rescue with unknow cause of the amputation when he was found. He's been with me almost three weeks now and he does this "doggy yoga" position many, many times a day. He gives the "appearance" of sort of doing a stretch.....or "unkinking" a muscle or omething....but holds the position for anwhere from maybe ten seconds to as much as almost a minute.
Not sure if the picture shows it very well, but his butt is high up in the air and front leg down on floor and fully stretched out.....upper chest touching the floor.
Any clues at all? Again, have no idea why leg was amputated. Regular vet checked him out when I first brought him home...didn't "feel" any oddities with his bones, spine, etc.. He's apparently between one year and one and a half. Frankie Huckleberry is VERY active, happy boy and show no outward health lroblems at all...knocking on wood!
Thank you anyone who has any insight! He may nust be that he's a practitioner of Yoga!!

I think Huckle is just plain brilliant and is doing his own chiropractic adjustments. I love the photo!
Of course I have no idea what he's doing but with Mona I've noticed that every so often when she starts walking she'll stop and see to do a readjustment of her scapula (non amputated leg) where it looks like she lifts it up and back and then she starts walking again.
What a fabulous pose - that pup's a keeper. Maybe he's bowing down to you, his Queen?

Actually, that nmakes sense about the scapula "realignment" too. That makes sense. His shoulder/scapula real k y does seem to stick out a lot depending on his positions.
Then again, I like the idea of being a Queen...even if only in the eyes of my dogs!

Daryl does something like this! When he first gets up. They are probably a lot smarter than us. I just get up, hit the floor and then complain my body hurts. He does this yowl while he stretches. Not a painful yowl, just his usual yowl. Maybe it is his idea of oooohhhmmmmmm! For yoga

We are also Pawrents to Chandler, a Border Collie mix who is 15 and 1/2, Lucy, a Corgi who is 7, 2 minis, 2 horses, and a feisty cat named Zoe. Zoe had a non skeletal Osteosarcoma removed in July 2015. No Chemo, she was at least 16. She is going strong although she is now completely blind. She is now close to 20 and her hobbies are eating and sleeping in front of her personal heater.

Frankie is just so cute in his "downward dog" position (I think that's what that position is called in yoga...
). Leland used to do all these stretches even before the amputation. He would do something similar to Frankie and then move forward and kick out each hind leg and point his toes. Hubby and I always joked that Leland was doing his yoga. Lucian does this "scared cat" sort of thing where he hunches up the middle of his back and kind of quivers a little.
I think it's just their way of working the kinks out so to speak. Maybe if we did more stretching like our furbabies we wouldn't have the aches and pains that we deal with....

I think it is stretching.... ala "downward dog"... while Jasper has all 4 paws, she does do weird stretches first thing in the am, both her frog pose (which I LOVE) and this one.... Shelby was also always a master stretcher like this ... lots of downdog.. Shelby was a rear amp but I *think* she still did some moves like this ...
I think he's OK and probably just working out the muscles... probably needs some extra since that front leg does take a bit more of the work.

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

It is probably normal although I would watch for signs of digestive upset. Many dogs will assume the "prayer position" if they have stomach problems/pain. If he is not vomiting bile or making lots of gurgling noises then he is probably fine. Some deep chested breeds do get esophageal reflux which often responds to pepcid.

This cracks me up with some of us impressed with Frankie's chiropractic/yoga stretches and then a vet chimes in with a warning of digestive issues. Not as much fun but great advice from Pam. Either way Huckle is fabulous.
I hope Festus isn't gurgling.

Yeah, Kerren...going from doggy yoga stretches...ohhhhhmmmmmm...to stomach issues is...er...quite a "stretch"!
After studying him (waaaaay to much) I kind of "sense" he is working out a little "stitch" of pain in his tummy or somewhere. Fortunately, no vomiting, gurgling, etc.
He's definitely developing anal gland "issue"...the "scent of stinky anal gland" and lots of licking......back to the vet! Got my first little "grrrr" when I tried to see if I could feel any impaction. It was a bit of a surprise, but I had to remind myself he is a rescue and still has a lot of "unknowns" yet to surface. Hope that doesn't "surface" anymore though! Anyway, dont know if that could be tied into his "prayer position" but I'll mention all of these things to the vet.
Just an aside, when he eats he prefers to lay down rather than eat from a raised food bowl. Dont know if that's a clue to anything either.
