Cody info:

-Front left amp at young age (6mo?) due to injury.

-Current age 4 yrs?

-Weight 20 lbs.

-cocker spaniel X?

I'm just not sure what my next step should be.  I was hoping to get some advice from anyone who has dealt with injuries to a remaining leg.  Cody injured his carpus about 4 weeks ago.  We've been to 3 vets.  We've gone from rest and pain meds to laser therapy to a splint (10 days).   He is still not using his remaining front leg.  He does use it a bit for balance,  bedding down,  going potty,  and sniffing the ground.  He will not use it for walking any distance.  He no longer seems to be in pain.  Swelling, heat,  and tenderness is gone.

The joint specialist has suggested a couple options:

1) a custom splint

2) bone fusion surgury

The joint specialist is very kind and knowledgeable but he admits that he's never performed surgery on a tripawd's remaining leg.

I've been considering a wheel cart.  ANY thoughts,  advice,  ideas, options or success stories would be very appreciated.   Thank you so much!

Edit to add Cody's splint was removed 11 days ago.

First of all, Cody is a very handsome young chap and very, very lucky to have you as his human!!!

Others will have more insight as, believe it or not, this kind of thing does happen. Once this gets healed, hopefully some good PT and core strength building ca help in his overall muscle building.

The Vet will provide good input and some options.

Sending you all the best wishes for a good solution that gets your sweet boy back in tip top shape! Glad he's not in pain...that's really good!!

Do they have a diagnosis?  If he injured a tendon that is not healing then a splint should be adequate.  If ligaments are torn then carpal arthrodesis (fusion of the joint) seems reasonable.  I would follow the recommendations of the surgeon.

Hey guys - any update here? My tripaw, Shasta (front amp) is going through the SAME EXACT situation. We're on week 3 and still no improvements. I'm desperate for more information. I'm tired of giving her so much meds for no results.

Unfortunately we haven't heard back from Cody's pack since their first couple of posts.

Here is a post on Treating Soft Tissue Injuries that Jerry posted in another forum.
