Hi Pam!  Jack had a front limb amputation 2 weeks ago.  Because he has an e-collar, he has left his surgery site alone, but for the last couple days he has been interested in chewing his back leg.  At first it was just a red spot and anti-bite spray kept him away from it, but last night we were going to bed and Jack's bed had blood on it - he had chewed a wound in his leg (his ankle bone area).  He has chewed this area before on and off since he was a puppy due to dew claw removal.  He had had it done before we got him and I'm not sure where he had it done, but I don't think it was the best (still feels like there's a bone in one leg whereas the other feels normal).  Could this be bothering him again?  Is leg chewing a sign of anxiousness?  Should we be worried?  Thanks!

If he has chewed there before then he might be doing it now due to anxiety or because he can't reach other areas.  If the Bitter Apple isn't working you can try wrapping it or using a larger E collar.  If he is bleeding he might need antibiotics.

Pam
