My tripawd cat had his middle (third...at least if it's the same as human biology) toe removed last week. He is healing up well, I've just noticed that since the surgery, the claw on his fourth toe looks crooked. I'm wondering whether that's just the normal result of missing the neighbouring toe it used to press against? It still seems functional but is sore to touch...or at least, he pulls away when that toe is brushed against (but the side of it was cut during the amputation, so...) He's started using his claws again today.

Here's a picture

Normally the adjacent toe should not be affected but maybe the surgeon had to get close to the other nail in order to remove the tumor.  If so the ligament to the toe could be affected and the claw will not retract.

I would only worry if there was redness or swelling at the toe base which could indicate infection.

No redness, and he seems to be able to retract the claw just fine.

Thanks.
