Hi Everyone!  Maddie is two weeks post amputation and her incision has looked really great up until tonight.  It's been a little pink but the surgeon (5 days ago) said it looked really good and he was happy with her healing.  Tonight though, it looks really red.  We took some pics and I plan to ask the surgeon if I can send them to him tomorrow but then it occurred to me, the folks here have seen these up close and personal too!!!  It's not filled with fluid, it is a little droopy but that's fat (the doctor concurs lol).  The top part where her shoulder was is perfectly normal, just the bottom half.  It doesn't seem to bother her and it's not hot.  It's just really red.  Thoughts?  As always - thank you all!

That is most likely some SQ bleeding so you have a bruise (gravity carries the seepage to the bottom part).  It should resolve with time.

It looks really good!  Pam, of course, is the expert, but as a nurse I agree that it just looks like bruising.  Bruising always goes to the lowest point.

Pam and Donna - THANK YOU SO MUCH!!  I thought it could be a bruise but was confused why it was just at the bottom (my medical knowledge is limited to how many Tylenol to take for a headache lol).  You have definitely relieved my anxiety.   I have been icing it and she doesn't mind at all so I knew it wasn't painful.  If anything she enjoys the icing - as long as you massage her other front leg at the same time lol!  Thank you again!

You can massage around the incision, too, to help reabsorb the extra fluids.  Murphy allowed us to do that without any problems.
