We live on 3rd floor apartment.  My husband and I have been carrying our 15 years old, 50lbs tripawd up and down stairs for potty.  May I know how soon we can let the tripawd to use stair with slang help?

It depends if your dog lost a front or rear leg.  Many rear leg amps can do stairs quite well in 2 weeks.  If your dog has lost a front leg then it may be harder to go down stairs since they feel like they may fall forward. In general larger breeds also take more time.

A 15 year old tripawd?? WOW! Hope you'll start a separate thread and tell us more about her! She deserves to be carried like a Princess!!!

My Happy Hannah...a rear legger..never did manage going "up" stairs, she was able to go down okayafter awhile. It can be very scary for them and the last thing you want is a fall or strain to their other limbs.

Also, I know one couple here used a stretcher. The got it from the vet.

Look forward to hearing more about your beautiful dog.

Take care!

We use a sling from the vet to help her manage stairs.  She has no problem to go downstairs and slowly for upstairs.   Now she goes 3 times a day for potty.  The evening/night walk, we carry her up.  We are so proud of her. =))

Wow, 15 years old.  Encouraging!! My little Ozzy flies up and down stairs with a front amp, 4 months now, but he is so little. Your dog sounds like she is doing great. It must be so hard for them to find that perfect balance not to fall. These dogs are so amazing.

If she is going downstairs than she must have it figured out, and 3 flights, what a trooper. I remember the first time I went downstairs and realized Ozzy followed me, I think I cried when I ran around the corner. He was so careful and it was only about 1 month after his accident.  Love that you carry her up after the evening walk. So sweet.
