Hi Tripawds! It's been awhile.
This isn't a Tripawd question, but I'm hoping someone can help me out. What's the shelf life of Gabapentin?
When Baxter's back flared up last February, we were prescribed 100mg capsules of Gabapentin. I didn't use it all up and saved some for an emergency, in case he had another flare up. Cleaning out Baxter's food/cookie/meds shelf, I found it today. Is it worth keeping for an emergency, or should I toss it?
It was prescribed Feb. 6, 2019 and the expiration date says Feb. 28, 2019. I'm assuming the expiration date is wrong.
Thanks,
David
David and Rocky (and Baxter now too!)
Rocky had his right front leg amputated on Valentine's Day 2017 after being diagnosed with osteosarcoma.
He joined the September Saints on September 3, 2017.
He is the toughest, bravest, sweetest and best friend I'll ever know.
It's a great question David. I'm looking forward to seeing what Dr. Pam has to say. My gut intuition says to call your vet clinic to verify the expiration date.

I buy it by the 500 count bottle direct from the pharmacy and the one I just purchased last week has an expiration of July 2021. You can call your vet and see if they can check the bottle or more likely they may have a default of 21 days on the label (did they give you a 3 week supply?).
Pam
Thanks Pam!
It probably was a three-week supply. It came from the emergency vet and not his normal vet. I emailed them to ask about it. I'll let you know what they say.
I'll probably just hang on to it for now and throw it out in February. I'm hoping I never need to use it again.
