Thanks for the update! As much as you want to see Duke, make sure your vet is comfortable with sending him home. Better safe than sorry... glad to hear they got it under control. Nw, on with the healing!

Keeping paws and finger crossed for you guys. Now that he is out of surgery and stable, get some rest. You'll be glad you did. He will be so glad to be home tomorrow.
Shanna & Spirit Trouble ~ Trouble gained her wings 3/16/2011, a 27 1/2 month cancer survivor, tail wagging. RIP sweetheart, you are my heart and soul. Run free at Rainbow Bridge.

OH GOOD! He's stable! Try not to worry! You'll see your sweet guy tomorrow.
Okay, I had to look up the tick disease and now I'm even more upset with his previous rotten person! It's another blessing as to you finding him!
Canine Ehrlichiosis [ ur-lik-ee-oh-sis ]
Canine ehrlichiosis is caused by the bacterium Ehrlichia canis and is transmitted by the brown dog tick. Like Lyme disease in dogs, warning signs may not be readily apparent. If left untreated, the disease progresses to a symptom-free phase, which can last days, months or years.
Mild signs appear to mimic a vague illness, the most obvious sign of which is weight loss. Severe cases of canine ehrlichiosis that go undiagnosed and untreated can end in death.
Most common signs of canine ehrlichiosis:
- Fever
- Runny eyes and nose
- Loss of appetite
- Depression
- Weight loss
- Swollen lymph glands
- Eye disease
- Retinal bleeding
- Spontaneous nose bleeds
- Bruising (petechiae) on gums and belly
- Swelling of limbs
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
But this is his new life and look how he loves his mommy! Trust me from experience, those shepherd boys are extremely attached to their mommies!

I'm so glad that Duke's now stable and doing well. I hope his recovery is uneventful, and he's back to his old self really soon! He's such a handsome boy!
Sadie is my 9yr old Rott/Shepherd mix. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right scapula 1/28/10. Our brave girl had her amputation 2/13/10 and her last chemotherapy on 6/6/10. Unfortunately, a tumor appeared in her back right leg and on 10/7/2010 Sadie's earthly journey came to an end. On 10/24/2010 we adopted Ranger, a handsome Rott/Lab mix tripawd (got hit by a car) I think Sadie sent him to us.

Yes the disease is pretty saddening for me, but we're treating it now. The sad part is that it's in the symptom free phase now, (can't understand how the previous owners didn't catch it or do nething about it) back to subject the vet said it is uncurable, but it's treatable for when symptoms start flairing up real bad. So he should be able to still live a semi-normal and long life. Just glad this vet caught it.

call it fate, call it kismet. sounds like marmaduke and you were meant to be together. he could have no better advocate, and no better 'sister' than you ashley. glad to hear he's turned the corner and coming home - home is for healing. paws crossed for continued healing and many, many happy times ahead!
