I noticed today at lunch that Zeus' urine was very cloudy/white-ish colored. I called the vet and I am going to capture and deliver his "first of the morning" sample to them tomorrow for testing. However, in the meantime I'm panicking.
Brief history for convenience: We are six weeks post-amp from OSA. He had his second of six carboplatin treatments a week and a half ago. All else is normal (eating, drinking, walking, pooping, etc). Gums are pink, eyes are very white and clear, and energy seems okay.
Side effect of Carbo? Side effect of catheterization (I'm guessing they catheterized since he is trimmed up there and ever since starting chemo, the pink part sticks out a bit when he needs to pee?) Side effect of high-protein diet (half Halo grain-free and half home cooked Dr. Oligive/CSU diet). My biggest concern is all the snow melt materials - we try to be vigilant about cleaning his feet, but maybe we missed some and he licked his feet?
Thanks for any input!
Lisa
Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11. A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

I feel your pain.I dont have any thoughts on what it might be but Roman has been having a spate of weird symptoms or whatever and I havent found any clear answers, good luck at the vet I hope its nothing serious. Did you google it? Ive been coming here with questions and sometimes forgetting to look elsewhere...
Oh gosh - I don't think I ever remember anyone commenting on urine changes here - unless it's an infection.
I'm sorry. Try to not panic.
Here's all i could find online for human via google:
http://urology......urine.html
White or cloudy urine is most
commonly a result of phosphaturia (2,3). This is a benign condition in which
excess amorphous phosphate crystals form in urine. Adding a drop of
acetic acid to the urine sample will result in immediate clearing of the urine.
Phosphaturia is usually intermittent, occurring following a meal or after
ingesting a large quantity of milk. White urine is sometimes due to pyuria
(abundant white blood cells) in association with an infection of the urinary
tract (1-4). White cloudy urine can rarely be due to chyluria (lymph fluid),
resulting from a communication with between the lymphatic system and the urinary
tract (3).

Thanks, everyone. We "collected" the "present" for the vet this morning and it was still VERY cloudy white with a tinge of orangish color. I dropped it off and I'm waiting to hear from the vet now.
Of course, I didn't move the container quickly enough when he finished (it WAS 5:30 am - can't say I am exactly cat-like in my reflexes at that time of morning), his leg hit my hand and we both ended up with it splashed out all over us. He was NOT happy with the sponge bath that followed.
Keep your fingers and paws crossed please!

You should try getting a 'fresh from the tap' urine sample from a rear amp pug. I had to use a pan with about a quarter inch lip, sneak up behind her after she started, slide the pan in, then get it out of the way before she stepped in it (yes- a very unhappy pug got a sponge bath that time). Then transfer into the little cup and off to the vet.
I hope you get good news today from the vet.

Collecting a sample from a pooch is never fun... But that sounds especially... sticky.
Hope it is nothing too serious and can be easily remedied.

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
Wow Karen, that IS a challenge!
Sorry you got the early morning splash. Not fun.
Let us know what the vet says.

YAY!!! Dr. Rider called this afternoon and advised that there was no infection found. He said the urine was definitely more concentrated than normal and that signifies some dehydration but everything else was normal and I should make sure he drinks more. I was confused by that at first b/c he has been drinking normally. Upon reflection I realized it might be from recent pooping habits. After this last chemo I noticed that he wasn't quite as solid as normal. Not diarrhea, just not quite normal. I didn't give him the meds the vet gave us b/c he never actually had full- blown diarrhea. But I guess several days of semi-loose can add up.
Sorry for such a disgusting post, but you wanted an update! Thanks for listening and for your always-present support!

Hah! Diarrhea isn't the most disgusting thing we've talked about here, that's nothing!
But THIS is great news. yay!
One way to get him to drink more is to liven up his water a bit. Light amounts of no-salt broth or even a small splash of Gatorade or heck, tuna water for that matter, will all help whet his whistle.

Gosh! It took me 20 hours to respond to this post! (it was at the top of page and I couldnt respond!)
Glad to hear about "no infection".
Grossed out? Who us? We talk about diarrhea so much- we even know how to spell it!! (Well, not really. I hope Rene spelled it right since I copied hers!)
