I was just wondering if anyone had first hand (or second, or third) knowledge of using chlorambucil as a treatment for recurrent mast cell cancer. I can only find one scientific paper online, and the study group was only 21 dogs. Granted the outcome sounded promising, but I was hoping for a larger data set.

I have not seen this drug used for this cancer but I have used it many times for other cancers such as lymphoma and dogs tolerate it very well.  I will see if I can find more info for you.

Thanks Pam! I appreciate it!

From what I've been reading, it seems that when mast cell cancer moves (and especially when it goes to the bone marrow), it behaves similar to a basophilic leukemia. Maybe that's why this drug might work???

So far I have found a few references to using the drug but nothing much on survival rate.  I would try it and see how it works.  Are they using it with other drugs like Palladia or CCNU?

Thanks again for checking, Pam. Rio had CCNU with the last round of chemo, so they thought that it probably wouldn't do any good to try it again. Her oncologist thinks that the Kinivet has better long term survival rates than Palladia for where we are with the progression of Rio's disease. We're going to try that route, and cross our paws and hope, hope, hope like hell that it works without too much adverse reaction. I guess the chlorambucil could be a fall-back in case the Kinivet doesn't work, but we'll see when/if we get to that point.

Thanks for the info!  I hope that Rio tolerates the new drug well.
