Today we saw a rehab vet who was going to give us tips on how to help Leo (border collie Tripawd rear amputation)

To spend £80 for their expert eye who promptly told me he doesn't need rehab as he will develop muscle tone naturally!

Well I have enlisted the help of Noel Fitzpatrick and I am hoping he will take Leo on his books as he's fantastic.

I have already brought some equipment for Leo and I have lots of agility equipment when he's much much much older.

I have also sent for an ordinary bath sling that I can trim to size to help Leo in our bath.

I have got a balance pad that I will try also BUT is this a normal response from a rehab vet for a pup that lost his leg at 4 days old?

Wow, not a vet but I wouldn't think so.  I think that you did the right thing to seek out a rehab vet.  The more you can help him adapt the better he will be (my assumption)

Oh my dog No! Was this person an actual vet or a therapist? What were there credentials? Did you choose them from this list of credentialed therapists?

No rehab vet I know would say something like that. Did they offer any other suggestions?

I hope Dr. Fitzpatrick will take on your case, he's such a Super Vet! Folks here in the U.S. aren't as familiar with his TV show but in short everyone, this guy is doing such advanced work with animals who need rehab, special assistance, etc., that we're not even seeing most of it here in the U.S yet. Amazing.

In the meantime if you are able, contact Dr. Debbie Gross, a world-famous rehab vet here in the states. She's a friend of ours and will steer you in the right direction and even do long-distance phone & video consulting if Dr. Fitzpatrick can't work with you.

Crazy!

It is true that puppies do very well as tripawds but I would still think that the dog would benefit from some type of strengthening exercises.  I would probably seek another opinion if possible!
