Good morning Dr Pam
My name is Petra, Super Stu and I have a question to ask you on behalf of his little sister, Miss Lily.Â
Can you tell me the dosage recommendations on cats for the Cerenia pill?
Miss Lily is 8.5lbs - 3.87kg
She has been prescribed 16 mg of Cerenia per day, for 4 days, due to vomiting and inflammation; she has recently been diagnosed with hyperthyroid, and we are now treating that as well with a transdermal Methimazole cream.
We have joined a hyperthyroid group, and they are warning me that the dosage my vet sent home is too high. I double checked with my vet yesterday as to her recommended dose and relayed this to the Hyperthyroid group and a couple of people told me that it is WAY TOO HIGH! Can you assist me with any information that you may have on dosing Cerenia for cats, as now i am very confused!Â
Miss Lily has done well on this dosage and has not vomited since we started the Cerenia on Friday and She is resting super well, better than she has in months. Her last dose is today. But i would like to know where we stand in case i need Cerenia for her in the future. I would appreciate hearing your recommendations for cats so I can discuss them with my vet today.
Thanks so much, Dr. Pam

I typically give cats under 10# 1/2 tablet of the 16 mg Cerenia once daily but I will say that Cerenia is very safe so the higher dose is okay. We often use it for chronic coughing dogs and cats as well at a much lower dose than the label suggests for nausea so you might see some cats taking 1/4 tablet every 1-3 days chronically for asthma.

Dr Pam, i can not thank you enough for putting my mind at ease! I will take this suggestion of half a pill dose for Miss Lily should she need it during her treatment with the Methimazole and i will tell my vet about my decision to do so!
i have been pretty stressed this morning, but you have managed to slow my heart rate down a wee bit... THANK YOU!!!
I wish you all the very best.
Petra, MIss Lily and Super Stu also says THANK YOU! đ Â

Great info here, thank you for asking Petra and for answering Dr. Pam!
It really pays to ask a vet doesn't it? đ Our Trikitty members will find this useful some day.
I hope Miss Lilly is feeling good and on the road to recovery. Smooches and hugs to you and the pack!

Hi Rene and Jim!
Once again i want to thank you for allowing me to use Tripawds to ask a question that doesnât involve Stewie! Miss Lily might still have her four paws but she has a furmily of Tripawds that we will all appreciate furever!
It most definitely does pay to ask a vet and I SO APPRECIATE DR PAMâS TIME! I know this will be an excellent reference for TriKittyâs around the world đ it is really difficult to find any supporting advice on this Cerenia pill for catsss. Lots of info for Dawgs, but we know they have a much different metabolism right!
Miss Lily has a referral in to get the Radiation/Iodine treatment and she will hopefully get booked in within the next four months. Wish us luck! đÂ
Thanks again you guys! I look forward to receiving my Tripawd Jewellery soon!
Love to you both!
