Is it common to find blood in the stool of a dog diagnosed with Osteosarcoma? Same question for dogs on antibiotic or Metacam? Has anyone had any experience with this?

There are very many reasons for blood in the stool; is it formed or diarrhea?  Fresh red blood?  Often this can be due to stress including post-chemo. Many of the drugs we use can also lead to blood in the stool and so can food/diet.  Parasites are less common but if dogs are immunosuppressed you may sometimes see Giardia.  Boxers seem more prone to ulcerative colitis but that is not that common.

Normally I would say feed a bland diet for a few days and give probiotics if you are not already doing so but definitely let your vet know if this persists for more that a few days.  Of course if the dog is vomiting or feeling poorly then call now.

Thank you! It is typically formed stool and it was fresh blood. Per instructions we have stopped his antibiotic and Metacam and he has been feeling a bit better. I didn't notice any obvious blood in his stool this morning, certainly not like I did the other day. Hoping this is temporary. Thank you for your feedback.
