Hi all,

Need a little advice. Our sweet 15 year old boy had his front right leg amputation 2 years ago. We noticed that he is starting to become more weak in his back left leg. Its the leg that he lays on consistantly. We get him out everyday and always attempt walks in the evening and backyard time. But lately we notice that its harder for him to get up. Walking is a bit more difficult. Although yesterday evening he had a really good walk! Is weakness like this common in old age tripaws? Should we talk to vet about upping his dosage of Tramadol? He eats just fine and is going outside with help to go potty. Just trying to prepare ourselves for possible end stages of life and what to expect.

I would have your vet check for an ACL injury.  If his cruciate ligament is intact then I would take xrays of the leg and spine to see what his treatment options may be.

Please also consider consulting with a certified rehab vet/tech for an orthopedic evaluation, treatment recommendations and strengthening exercises you can do at home. Visit a CCRT or CCCRP and the Tripawds Foundation can even pay for your first visit from the Maggie Moo Fund for Tripawd Rehab!
