Our two year old Great Peirneise, Anatolian Shepherd mix had his leg amputated on January 26th. The incision healed well except for an opening of about an inch and a half, which refuses to close. The vet did a culture and there was an infection but nothing remarkable, he is taking antibiotics. The skin around the opening is pink and healthy, but is right on the shoulder bone so it moves all the time. When he lays down it is right on the floor, so we keep a tee shirt on him so it is clean.  What suggestions do you have, we were thinking steri strips to hold it closed, or even a skin graft from his belly..we really need help with this.   Murphy's loving family

Can you feel his scapula pushing through the muscle?  If so he might need another surgery to either remove the scapula or close the area using more muscle to act as a pad.
