Been thinking about our Tom's sire, Euchre, who died on Friday after eating a leather glove. Scout ate some pretty bizarre things and was not bothered in the least-- although his mama was plenty worried. I think the scariest thing he ever ate was an entire package of mini babybel cheeses-- the net outer bag and the 6 mini-cheeses wrapped in cellophane and wax. The vet assured me he'd be absolutely fine, and he was-- not even a hint of indigestion or diarrhea.

I had a dobe that counter surfed and grabbed a bag of dried cubed stuffing. We came home to an empty bag on the floor, empty water dishes and empty toilet bowls (ewww) and one sick pup. Everything was "processed" rather quickly.
Monkeybutt Samson grabbed the last of a popsicle that was offered to him, swallowed it including the stick. I panicked, with visions of emergency surgery, called my vet at home who said to give him a couple of tbsp of hydrogen peroxide until he threw up. Well it worked.
Spirit Samson was Spirit Tripawd Daisys four legged "brother" and ruled as the self proclaimed head of the Monkeybutt Federations East Coast Division. Lady Chunky Monkey stayed from Oct 2011 and left for the bridge in Apr 2012. Miss Perdy is left and has some big pawprints to fill.

Thanks to Monkeybutt Samson, we now know what to do if our dog eats a popsicle stick-- Scout came very close to eating a number of Popsicle sticks, but he always chewed them so I was able to pry them out of his jaws. Ugh on the stuffing...

Hydrogen peroxide does work...we found out the hard way too. Charley was about 6 months old and swallowed one of my no-show socks and thank God I saw him do that. I called the emergency vet hospital in a panic (of course it was about 11pm) and was told to give him hydrogen peroxide...after a few minutes the retching started, followed by vomiting and up came the sock. He was vomiting for the next day or so, but so much better than the alternative. I still keep a few bottles of HP in the closet and Charley is almost 4.

many, many years ago, we had an afghan hound we got from a rescue. he was very, very tall. i remember (back before our vegetarian days) taking a roast out of the oven, one of those that had the mesh-elastic bags around it. well, i took the bag off, and had the roast on a cutting board...phil, our afghan hound, just loved the smell of it all, and helped himself to the mesh bag....gulp, it was gone.... about two days later, we recovered the bag, in the back yard....filled with poop.... yikes!

By "worst," do you mean the most dangerous or the most disgusting? Most dangerous would be the 6 lovely, large, expensive and delicious (or so I imagine) chocolate truffles in my Christmas stocking the year-before-last. I'm still not sure who got them but they were not there the next morning. Dakota was tall enough to reach them and is the likely suspect. Nobody got sick, nobody barfed, nobody died.
The most disgusting was either the raccoon paw that was barfed up in front of me with great drama or the elk leg (hip to hoof) that I confiscated, to much concern and anxiety. Both were thanks to Dakota. And it was probably the raccoon paw because it looked so doggone human.

Yes, the paw is utterly disgusting, and the elk leg had to be enormous; aren't elk 6 feet tall? Shari's stocking story reminded me of the time Santa stupidly filled Scout's knit stocking with treats and he ate the whole damn stocking before we woke up Christmas morning. No ill effects there either...

Wow, I'm really impressed with both Scout and Zephyr. I would love to see how a dog poops (well, not really) after eating grout. But Scout seems to win the prize for sheer determination and exploration. "Hey look! What is it? I dunno but it fits into my mouth. Ok, let's try it!"

Our old boy Sarge ate his whole bottle of medicated shampoo for his skin issues - no lasting problems but the vomit was a damm sight more pleasant than usual to clean up and rather bubbly 🙂

Dang, I wish I could have met Orko!
The question is asked "with no ill effects," and we see that Tazzie did come through the Advil poisoning after a lot of hard work. I know we know most of the nasty things that can really hurt our dogs. Sometimes we find a new one and are stunned to realize that something we've always had around is dangerous. For me it was grapes. My dogs loved grapes and I would give them two or three before finding out grapes are no-no's.
Last year my very good friends almost lost their Golden to the double whammy combo of raisins and chocolate. She ate an entire candy dish of chocolate covered raisins. The dog spent several days at an emergency vet clinic, was discharged after her kidneys came back to life, and then tanked again and spent another few days in the hospital again. They now refer to the dog not by her name but by the magic number of how much her treatment cost.
Angel Riley's mom has a new Golden puppy, Sage, that last week ate some yucca seeds in their yard. I believe little Sage had a bit of a struggle to get through unscathed. KaCee said that the only safe yard is a denuded, bald yard. Sometimes it seems that way, doesn't it?
