We spent the past almost two weeks in Southern Florida and I had the opportunity to visit a few different Sea Turtle Rehabilitation programs (confession: I love sea turtles). Everywhere I went I saw "tri-flippered" turtles. Amputations were mostly due to injury but 70% of the turtles were suffering from tumors. The last picture isn't a tri-flipper but he had tumors removed and is undergoing cold laser therapy. Who knew there was a parallel tri-flipper universe out there!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Oh wow, this is so incredible !! I always wanted to visit a turtle rehab place when I visit Florida, but always end up at Sea World. This reminds me of the tour we took a few years back behind the scenes, and toured the marine life hospital and rehab facility there. I am crazy for Manatees and they had several there when we took the tour......one of them, and adult female, had most of one of her flippers amputated by a boat propeller, and was healing. This makes me so sad, but most, if found and cared for properly, do survive, but sometimes have to live in safe place away from boats. I did take pictures but have no idea where they are stored at the moment.

I just love amazing animals !!! Thank you for sharing this Elizabeth!
Love,
Bonnie & Angel Polly
