Hi All, I just haven't had the heart to write since we got the news about the new bone cancer in Zip but as the days have passed I am counting my blessings. When I saw Zip after I got home, I could tell no difference in her except she seemed livelier. The oncologist told my daughter that Zip was not ready to go yet and I truly agree. She is on a new chemo that does not make her sick like the last one did and maybe it will slow things down. My daughter says she will not let Zip suffer at all but also doesn't want her to go one second before she needs to go. Her appetite is good, her energy level for a girl of her age is good, her blood work came back fine so we are trying to be dog-like and live in the moment. Took a friend with a dobie over to Texas A&M because the dog was in a research project that was ending and found at least three mets in his lungs and ultrasound showed nothing in the abdomen so the cancer is probably in the pelvis or a host of other places. This friend's husband just died at Christmas and this was really his dog so this is a double whammy for her. I told her about this group if she decides she needs some support and advice. I, like all of you ,HATE cancer and the holes it tears in our hearts.

Well, this is good news about Zip, she's certainly setting an example for living in the moment!
I'm sorry to hear about your friend, that really is a double whammy. I hope we can help her out somehow.

It's hard to keep your chin up but you sound like you are doing so well! Kudos! Zip will let you know and until then, let's just keep celebrating the days and special moments!

She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.

That news is terrific, all things considered. Zip is living up to her name, and it's great to see another pup who is defying silly human expectations! Go Zip, Go!

Once again I am late with posting a message, but being busy at work is a good thing these days. Happy to read that Zip is enjoying life, and am saddened to read of your friend. Send her our way, we'll be here for her...even that goofball Vampire Monkey Butt will greet her, I'm sure.

ohhhhh nooooooooo. We can't believe this.
We are so, so sorry. These decisions are heart-wrenching and we really feel for you. It's so hard to know when the time is right, and sometimes it happens before we are ready. Hugs to you for not allowing Zip to suffer and giving her the gift of being pain free.

Oh no, I was just checking in for the update and wasn't expecting so see such sad news. I'm so sorry to hear that she passed. She was a fighter to have 14 months. I hope you and your daughter find some peace in the coming days, knowing she fought the good fight, and that she had a great life with you.

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year.
