It's almost been a week since my dog Queen had her right hind leg amputated--and she's milking it for all it's worth!

When she doesn't want to do something, she lays down and does the "Oh, I'm so poor, and crippled, and tired" act.

But the moment she thinks she gets to go somewhere she likes... or the moment food is involved... she leaps to her feet and runs for it.

It's really funny, because she wasn't manipulative (or melodramatic) before the amputation. Her shoulder angel must have been on the one they removed xD

Wendy she sounds so adorable! Dogs have a way of training us don't they?

How is she doing otherwise like with walks and play time?

She isn't allowed any walks until after October 11th, when her stitches come out. She hasn't shown any interest in play yet, but out of our 3 dogs, she has always been the least interested in play anyway. Before the amputation, she spent 80% of her time lounging in her favorite napping spots. After the amputation, it's more like 90%. She can still do everything she could before--go up and down stairs, get on the furniture, run to the door when strangers come--she just does it a bit more slowly.

There have been a couple of minor personality changes. The first is that she's more vocal--more grunts, and huffs, and "talking". She's expressing the same opinions she always did, just more loudly/more melodramatic.

The second is that she's a little less patient. Our rambunctious border collie has always annoyed her. Before amputation, when he was being too energetic, she'd just roll over and ignore him. After amputation, she's quicker to scold him with a growl.

So much fun reading about all the nuances of Queen's personality.  She certainly knows how to "speak her mind"😎

She's doing sooooo well!  This is the kind of recovery  we like to see....and it even gets better!!

Hey Wendy, what you are describing sounds like a pretty good and very typical recovery! I'm glad things seem to be going really well and you are managing her activity so well. Way to go!smiley_clap
