Friends, I think about you all the time...........I just have a lot on my plate right now. First of all, Shelby is doing GREAT! We're coming up on her 2 year ampuversary....she is still a wild child with boundless energy and a zest for life. How blessed we are.
Her *sister* Phoebe, my 10 year old rescued golden, is facing another challenge. In February, she underwent surgery to remove a tubular mammary gland adenocarcinoma on her left side. The surgeon got clean margins and we thought we were in the clear. Since I check my dogs each Friday for any lumps/bumps/growths, I found something that felt terribly familiar last Friday. To make a long story short, she now has it on the other side and all the mammary glands will be removed on Tuesday.
Phoebe is a ray of sunshine........a little 55 pound joyful, happy rescue girl who was bred relentlessly by a bastard BYB who kept her in a backyard and dumped her when he decided to breed teacup mutts. We immediately spayed her and for 4 years she's been a blessing in my life. I obviously did something right to deserve a golden girl like Phoebe. There are no words to describe how much I love her.
Please keep her in your prayers as we go to battle against The Beast again...........we WILL BEAT THIS!

Good luck with Phoebe's surgery, I'll be thinking of her (and you). I never saw the Betty White quote on goldens -- how very true. I have a 8.5ish golden who is a rescue. He was scheduled for an amp tuesday after Memorial Day but the chest xray showed two masses so the surgery was canceled. I look at him every day and wonder how long I will have him.
Harley is an 8 year old Golden Retriever. Amp surgery for an infiltrative lipoma canceled due to two masses in chest. A rescue, he found his forever home on 3/18/07 and left for his eternal home on 1/09/13. His story and medical history are at http://myharley.....pawds.com/

I'm sorry to hear that about Phoebe, but she sounds like a fighter. Anyone who can survive BYBs can beat this! Sending positive thoughts her way!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Geez I'm so sorry. You are the second pawrent this week who announced that they are dealing with cancer in two dogs, at the same time (Hollybeans is the other pawrent).
I'm sure Shelby's spunk has rubbed off on Phoebe, and she will kick cancer's butt. Good luck, and keep us posted. You are stronger than ever now that you've dealt with cancer once before, remember that.
Congratulations on Shelby's two year ampuversary too, has it really been that long? Wow.

This just seems so unfair and I am sorry that you are facing another illness. But, on a positive note, you have done such a wonderful job taking care of Shelby and Phoebe couldn't ask for a better mum to fight this battle with her. Many hugs to you and wishes for a speedy recovery.

Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11. A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...
