In his case, we usually called them Plus Fours, rather than Knickerbockers. Just to throw in another option.

Ruby, Staffy, born June 2022, became a Tripawd, November 2023, adopted January 2024.

Also Angel Tripawd Meg (aka The Megastar), who died in April 2023, aged 14, after seven glorious years on three, and Angel Staffies Elsie Pie and Bille. In the pawprints of giants...

Ok. Wow. How did this turn into a linguistic challenge?? 😳

Over here, Clare, I know Knickerbockers as what you describe pantaloons as: balloon-ey on top, tight at the bottom. Like in my google picture.

BUT I also know that in Britain, knickers are underwear. As are (under-)pants. Which were probably derived from PANTaloons, correct??

So apparently both alternatives are more fitting for DaBears with their airy um, cheeks, as Manni is CLEARLY not showing his underwear! So,people, I guess we need alternatives!! (And do not even start with skirt! Manni wouldn't be greatly offended!!)

as for Manni's knowledge of the English language: he did take over my blog the other day and judging from that it's not all that bad, HOWEVER, most of the time he decidedly won't even understand German, so I'm not sure.

Well Tina when I think of pantaloons I think of pirates or swashbucklers really manly men.  When I think of knickerbockers I picture a man with knock knees.  Maybe it's a US thing? So my vote has to go for pantaloons cause Manni is manly man!

You know, the German word for pants or trousers is Hose. 🙂 Now I'm sure that Manni wouldn't be too thrilled with the English meaning of this 🙂 🙂

Ahahaahaaaaaaah 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Just love this thread 😆

Best suggestion so far is Oompa Loompa, Eurydice and me are with Izzy 👑

Eurydice 77kg/170lb Great Dane limping end of April 2016, amputation (right front leg/osteosarcoma) 4 May 2016 6 courses of carboplatin followed by metronomic therapy, lung mets found 30 Nov 2016. 3 courses of doxorubicin, PET scan 26 Jan 2017 showed more mets so stopped chemo. Holistic route April 2017. Lung X-ray 5 May 2017 showed several tennis ball size mets, started cortisone and diuretics. Miss Cow earned her XXL silver wings 12 June 2017, 13 months and 1 week after amputation and 6 1/2 months after lung mets, she was the goofiest dawg ever and is now happily flying from cloud to cloud woof woofing away :-)

Mona, as in Mona Lisa, pointed out that the Oompa Loompa fans don't even have any. Have a look at those skinny back legs on Izzy and Eurydice.

Mona, of Italian heritage, favours Pantelones (with an Italian accent of course). However, let's see Manni's reactions to all suggestions.

Mona loves to show off her Pantelones, even after she's been gardening. Is that a slug on the left?ugh

Ok. I'm done.

🙅🏼

. I've run out of words. I'll leave it to the native speakers...

so we have:

knickerbockers

pantaloons

oompa loompas

 dungarees

am I missing anything? Anybody have another word that maybe we can agree on? ( I'd be happy with Khakis, too, except the color's not right 😊)

help a German out, wouldya??

And the last minute entry that would be technically correct for our fellow equines would be: FEATHERS!

Unlike the specificity of other languages, English may have 20, heck, 50 words for the same concept. So, here at DaBear HQ, we like 'em all.

And I've got a last second entry ☝🏼

My good Irish friend who just came to visit us and is excited to participate with an excellent international suggestion.

Tcham tchaaaaam 🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁

Faux fur lederhosen (I'm sure Mani will like this)

AND

Thunder tight tights (as he is a muscular chap)

How about that ????

Darling Mona 🐱

Eurydice here 🐮

Just a correction.

My legs (and Izzy's) are not skinny, they are ... aham ... elegant 💃🏽

Of course, judging by the pictures, your legs are quite hairy but I bet you have a really soft, and wonderful coat 😻

😘💕🐮💕
