We talk a lot about how to Be More Dog . One of our favorite philosophers, Ekhart Tolle, is one of the greatest teachers on this subject. Here is a quote of his that I love:
“Most humans are never fully present in the now, because unconsciously they believe that the next moment must be more important than this one. But then you miss your whole life, which is never not now.”
If you haven't already, check out the book he wrote about how animals teach us to live in the Now. It's illustrated by Mutts creator Patrick McDonnell and called Guardians of Being. You will love it!

PROFESSIONALLY .... and personally and not related to Shelby (at all) I needed to see this today! I am sooooooo guilty of wondering "what's next" and "how can I get there" instead of appreciating the gifts that I have today.

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

You know what is funny...I'll share here...
I've always talked on behalf of my dogs... yeah.. okay.. I know come of you do too!! admit it!! And when Franklin was alive.. his voice was kinda goofy, low and a bit slow....kinda like Fat Albert... Maggie.. is a higher pitched voice.. like the southern girl, without a strong accent.. and now she is a more mature motherly southern girl voice.. Wilson.. has a fast low voice.. zoom zoom zoom .. full of energy.. kinda like a toddler on a sugar high sometimes...
But.. every night after work, we go for our walk along the trails.. and that old girl of mine walks along.. and wags her tail non stop. Sometimes she stumbles.. and sometimes she falls..
but.. every time we walk..I say... in my Maggie voice...
This is the best walk I have ever had...
This is the best grass I have ever walked on...
This is the best stick that I am carrying....
This is the best ball I have ever chased....
This is the best car ride I have ever had....
This is the best time I have ever had with you....
basically... every day.. we Be More Dog .

Franklin, he was the Happiest Dog on Three Legs! Diagnosed 09/26/2012 with Osteosarcoma, amputated 12/4/2012. Had a wonderful 5 1/2 months painfree until he ran for the Bridge on 5/15/2013. Awe Christine.... LOVE!!!
You know ... I do that too (talk for my dogs)... jasper's voice is adorable ... with a slight accent to her "mexican" roots ... she calls me mama with the emphasis on Maaaaaa
Shelby had her slight southern belle accent (being from the south) and called me mommy... 🙂
And I do the same ... as I look into Jasper's eyes ... I can simply see her saying "OMG, mama... this is the BEST ever! I love you mama, thank you for rescuing mama and every day is the best"...
