Happy Canada Day! We have lots of celebrations this weekend so I hope everyone enjoys!
Carmen, a stupid question (I need to get out my converter) what's the distance for 15KM and 5KM....you know us Americans, we can't work with the metric system...but it sounds like a lot of miles. I'm also assuming that you meant jog and not "job" unless this was a Freudian slip and doing a 5KM is a job.
Bwwaaahahha (not sure what the correct spelling is...)
Hope you all have a very relaxing day today!
Kami (Mackenzie and Kobe's Mom)
My sweet golden Mackenzie. She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2 although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009. She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes. I love you Mackenzie!
Well - Canada Day has come and gone (since it is now 2:30 am) - there were fireworks (I missed them) - the man-made waterfall from the High Level Bridge in Edmonton (also missed that) - and road races (running/walking) (I missed those too) - many BBQs and picnics (didn't go to any) - many face-painting artists working today, it seems, as there were lots of painted faces, mostly among the under-10 age category - but certainly not exclusively !
In my little corner of Canada, there was baseball (hitting practice) for my son's team, this morning, followed by 9 holes of golf (it was a beautiful day for golf - although I'm blaming the wind for some of my shots that found their way into the water ), followed by a very well attended Edmonton Capitals vs Calgary (don't know what they're called !!) baseball game, which "we" won - in style - with a home run in the bottom of the 10th inning.
Sophie has definitely turned a corner in her recovery - found her appetite, and regained some of her enthusiasm for life. I'm taking that as a gift from the universe on this Canada Day.
My wish for all of you .... I wish that the universe hears your hopes and prayers, and makes things right in your world. While we may not always get what we want, what we get may be exactly what we need.
Sophie (1998 – 2010)
"Going Dog" def: living every day in the moment
"It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are."

Ah. More common ground, Tana! It's 2:54 AM and I can't sleep either.
Glad Sophie's feeling better! That is truly a gift from the universe.

A 5KM jog is a job . I did mean jog though.
Relaxing day? Yardwork, housework, laundry, packing lists. My husband and I are leaving for Varadero, Cuba on Sunday with 20 others, including my daughter and fiance. They're getting married there on July 7. I've been visiting a lot of saunas to acclimatize myself to the expected humidity and heat.

A 5K is 3.1 miles; 10K is 6.2 miles, etc. The only reason I know this is because I also like to run a few races now and then. I just finished the Seattle Rock and Roll Half marathon this last weekend (I wasn't up for the full 26.2 miles!!).
Pam
Pam - congratulations on the half marathon! I completed my first half last August here in Edmonton; intended to run the Las Vegas Rock and Roll Half in December 2009 but fractured my ankle on the way to the start line (of course, I didn't know it was fractured until I got it checked out back home, but it didn't stop me from shopping at the outlet malls the day after). Seattle looks like a beauty of a place to run.

Gawd, I feel like a lazy lug with all this running/jogging talk!
Tana, I'll meet you on the golf course as long as we get a cart! Fair warning though, it's been so long since I played that my golf shoes have metal spikes! (I'll probably be much better without practice!)
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
