The results are in: 55% Labrador Retriever, 22% GSD, 7% Golden Retriever and 6% Australian Shepherd. He tests clear of any genetic markers for disease, and his "human age" is 54 - he just turned 6 in dog years. Where they missed - predicted weight of 87 pounds (although they have a large disclaimer around predicted weight with a please e:mail if we are way off). For those who forgot, he was 120 on arrival and today is about 111, I think due to increased activity and perhaps higher quality food.
So, fun and most of the results seem reasonable. I have a 20% coupon that I can share with anyone who is interested. Just PM me.
Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016. Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016. Lung mets August 25, 2016. Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016. Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.
Wherever they are, they are together.

I think he really is having a chance at a second "puppyhood" with you, so that throws the age thing waaaaay off!!
Did you feel.like he was ...er...extra "fluffy" when he first arrived? I just remember thinking of him as a really big boy!! The weight he has now seems perfect! Good job!!

Not really fluffy when he arrived, but I think a higher quality diet, measured portions and perhaps more exercise is making a difference. Vet is very happy with his current weight, but no way he could ever be 87 pounds - his bone structure is just too big. And actually, I turn 51 in January - his 54 looks way younger than I feel. He also seems younger than Otis did at 6, although Otis had the Dane mix.

This is so interesting. And fantastic news about the lack of disease markers. It is hard to think of him as 54. He seems like such a big baby, like a chick, almost, a big Gator chick, sitting on your lap at the vets...
I can't wait to get Meg's. We're way behind though, as the swab took more than a month to get here. In fact, I think it got lost, so they sent a replacement. Extremely friendly and helpful service, I have to say. They've just got it back so could be another couple of months. I've a theory Meg has the dwarfism gene, which they test for, and which would explain quite a lot in terms of her bone problems. We shall see.
Ruby, Staffy, born June 2022, became a Tripawd, November 2023, adopted January 2024.
Also Angel Tripawd Meg (aka The Megastar), who died in April 2023, aged 14, after seven glorious years on three, and Angel Staffies Elsie Pie and Bille. In the pawprints of giants...
