I am missing my Valentina soooo much!!!! I know nothing will ever replace her but one thing I do know is that nothing will make me feel better except to be around a Great Dane. So I have decided to apply to be a Foster Mom to a Great Dane through the Mid Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League. I am currently waiting for someone to call me for a home interview. After that I will have to fill out an application and then I will have a home inspection. Then I have to wait to see if I get approved. I am really excited. I have so much love to give to a Great Dane and I want to help one in need. I think it will really help me too. I will also eventually get another Great Dane of my own but this is something I have been thinking about doing for a while so I decided that now is a good time. So I hope everything turns out ok. I will let you know what happens. I know that there are at least 2 Danes waiting for a foster home right now so we will see. Wish me luck!!
Valentina Angel Dane diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in front left leg May 21st 2011. Amputation July 5th 2011.
DOB:11/3/03 DOD:2/3/12 . Valentina was the Love of my Life!!! There is nothing like a Dane!!!
Hope your get approved !?! They would be crazy not to love you! If they don't approve you they'll have visions of a herd of tripawds and Monkey Butts attacking them!
I think fostering is a great idea. It'll be good to have a place to send all that love, and a foster really needs it.
Bless your heart for being such a great furbaby mom.
Hugs and Wags,
Judy and Baby
so sweet of you to open your heart to a foster!!! don't be surprised if somehow, you find you just can't let that pup go!!! valentina would be so proud of you.
charon & spirit gayle
Life is good, so very, very good!!! Gayle enjoyed each and every moment of each and every wonderful day (naps included). She left this world December 12, 2011 – off on a new adventure.
Love Never Ends
I think that's terrific! It takes a very special type of person to love a giant pup like a Dane, and you are definitely one of them. Paws crossed for a foster pup soon!

I think that's a great idea! I'm sure they'll approve you! Valentina would be very proud of her Mama.
The pooch who gets to come have you as a Foster Mom will be a lucky pup!
Keep us posted!
Jackie, Angel Abby & MBBunny Rita's mom
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
You will be a great foster mom! There is no better tribute to your baby than to help another Dane. I hope your foster baby fills the empty space in your heart.

Smilin' Sammy, March 16, 2004 – Dec. 5, 2011
Golden retriever, diagnosed with osteosarcoma in September 2010 — right front leg amputated November 2010. He fought valiantly to stay with us; but a second diagnosis of osteosarcoma, this time in his left front leg, was more than our golden warrior could overcome. He loved his pack — and everyone else he met.
We loved him even more.
Thanks for the pennies, Sammy. They helped.

If they need references for you send them here! There are lots and lots of people here who can vouch for you being a good Dane Mom!
That's a terrific idea! Definitely.

I hadn't checked in for a couple of days, and I am loving all the great posts. What a wonderful gesture; I cannot think of a better way to honor Valentina. It will be a lucky Great Dane that finds itself in your home. We'll join the angry tripawd mob should they not approve you!
Scout: January 31, 2002 to November 7, 2011
Scout's diagnosis was "poorly differentiated sarcoma"; amputation 1/11/2011. Scout enjoyed 9 fantastic years on 4 legs and 9 glorious months on 3 legs. If love alone could have saved you…
Oh Angel, this is WONDERFUL! Obviously, I am in total agreement with you that life is just not complete without a Dane. I too will ALWAYS have a Dane in my life. There is no doubt that you will be approved as a foster parent. There are so many Danes out there that need love. Valentina would be so proud of you.
Dane Leans to you from Queen Nova, and a big hug from one Dane Mom to another....

Dane Mom Sue at nova.tripawds.com and Mom to Beautiful Great Dane Queen Nova, a Blind Tripawd, who kicked cancer's butt from 11/08-03/13. The Queen is Spirit Nova now, but her legacy lives on here at Tripawds!
Gerry was my first (and only) foster after I lost Yoda to osteosarcoma. It definitely helped me to have another dog to fuss over sooner rather than later. You don't grieve for your lost pup any less, you just have an excellent, wagging reason not to let that grief overwhelm you too much.
Gerry has been a tripawd since 12/16/2009.
He was a shelter dog with a mysterious past and an irrepairable knee injury.
Videos and pics of Gerry's pawesomeness can be found at: http://gerry.tripawds.com
