I posted more details under presentation and diagnosis, but the short story is, it may be cancer or it may not. A lot of long words, but a few scary scenarios thrown in. I don't like the words spindle cells. Toe is coming off this coming Wednesday. We go for consult Tuesday and surgery on Wed. I am tired of seeing him with a sore foot. I am stopping at toe amputation though. He will be 14 this summer, so chemo is a no. Not looking forward to re entering the specialty vets office. 🙁 So many tough memories. I will hang tough for my boy though. ❤️ Lori, Ty! Chan & gang

Oh gosh Lori!! I know your heart dropped to the floor when you heard the "possibility". I KNOW your mind is racing like crazy right now with every AWFUL scenario you can possibly conjure up!! We ALL understand, that's for sure!!

AND, it may NOT be ANY of those awful scenarios!! And for now, try ..TRY...not to jump ahead!

You have a plan. You're going to do the toe amp. You are going to get rid of that hurting toe!! That's all that Chan cares about!! And you're making very logical decisions by factoring Chan's...er..."maturity into how you will proceed, and where youy draw the line in the sand. And I have NO doubt The Chan Man is in total agreement!!

Yes, triggering tough memories for sure. And then having to go back to "that" clinic..UGH!!! I'm sorry. But you ARE one tough cookie when it comes to being brave for your pups, thatsw for sure!

And you KNOW we are right by your side, every single step of the way!! As are ALL of April's Angels!

Love and ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Shelby Lynne; Jack Russell/Shiba Inu mix. Proud member of the April Angels of 2014.

October 15, 2000 to April 8, 2014

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Sorry it has taken a few days. Surgery went well. He hate the cone of shame . I have been able to keep him out of it if I am at home just by putting it in view. He knows i.e. He chews, on it goes. He is back on the couch and chewing antlers. 5-7 days for biopsy results. We had a bit of trauma this evening. The weather here is horrid. He got out of his boot thingy ( actually an IV bag rigged up) and got his dressing soaked. Since it is icy and the weekend, I got the idea I could redress it my self.Unwrapped the vet wrap and saw gauze is wet also. Hubby said he would run for some. Meanwhile, Chan gets the rest of the gauze off wearing the cone! I had to sit and hold him while hubby ran to town for more gauze. First look was a bit of a shock as his foot looks sort of like a chicken foot. Bald and 3 toed. He is now rebandaged ( pink with polka dots😊) and res ting comfortably. Unfortunately , I will have to admit to vet this week what happened because there is no hiding the color change of bandage. Lori, Chan, Ty and gang

The Chan Man may be a bit of an older fella', but he has the spunk and determination of a young wild child!!! No stinkin' cone is gonna' outwit this wise fella'! If he wants thzt gauze off, by doggy, it's coming off!!!

I'm so glad ro hear he's back in the sofa and chewing antlers.....and looking so manly in his pink polka dot wrap! Yep, no hiding that from the Vet!!!

Are you going in Thursday for your bionic knee? Maybe you could get a matching wrap like Chan's!! 🙂

Thanks for the update Lori! I know none of this seemed funny to you, but we sure did get a bit of a chuckle out of it!!!

Update I. BOTH of you when you can...and take care!

Lots of love! 🙂

Yep, this Thursday for me. I can sort of chuckle about it now, but when it was happening, I was a bit of a mess. I am just hoping he did not get any germs or dirt in his wound, which by the way looks pretty good. He even got a complementary nail trim that I just now notice on all 4 feet. I wanted to ask them to do it while he was out. He is a bear and it takes me an entire week to get his nails all done. They got. Them nice and short. I will let you know how much trouble I get into at the vets office on Wednesday. I really had no choice, I sure couldn't let all that wet stuff on him. I swear he is looking at his pink bandage with disgust. I borrowed it from my neighbor and their pup is a girl. I wish I still had his pink polo shirt. It would look amazing!

Gator had one of those IV bag protectors too.  Unfortunately, if there is too much snow, it seems to get in the bag and help pull it off, plus the bitter cold freezes the bag, which also helps it come off.  Fortunately for us, it was so cold that we could just wipe the snow off his bandage the instant he came in  before it melted.  I am sure you will not be the first family to return with a totally different dressing on.smiley

Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016.  Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016.  Lung mets August 25, 2016.  Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016.   Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.

Wherever they are, they are together.

When Meg had a bandaged lower leg and foot for an extended period, we went through every conceivable covering in an effort to find something that would keep it reliably dry. In the end, we discovered waterproof socks, e.g.<a href="
