... Angel Eurydice managed to calm Gaspar down at the last minute and all ended well ...

... next day Mom did what she always does when she is in Portugal ...

... she took us to Fatima to attend mass ...

... Mom was born a catholic, she is not a "traditional" believer, in fact she never even goes to mass ...

... but Fatima is a sacred place for christians and is always full of pilgrims and true believers ...

... Mom always says the wonderful, positive, light, loving energy that exists in this place is magical ...

... so the four of us are attending mass and Mom will light a candle for me after it is blessed by the priest 🕯 ...

... I feel teary eyed now Mom, I am right next to you my adored Mommy 💓 ...

Oh wow, one of my favorite dogs! A million years ago or so (the picture on my wall is dated 11/17/96) I did work with Afghan Hound Rescue. I took in an old man, his name was Rajah the Elder. I tried to look him up after computer technology boomed but I never found anything on him. He was 15 years old and 10 pounds underweight. He had one owner that passed the year before and he was placed in another home but it was not working. He was depressed, losing weight, and the people that had him gave him up. I went to a kennel in Connecticut that worked with Afghan rescue and that is how we met. Strange but true, he was pointed out to me and we went into a yard area with several other Afghans and I just watched and paid him no mind. I thought my heart was going to beat out of my chest lol. He approached me as I was walking and did that Afghan "goose" right in the butt!

I took him home with me to "foster" him, my first of several foster failures 🙂  I mean, he was already 15 years old, and when he put his paws on my shoulders he was taller than I am. We both fell in love, and I cared for him for a little over a year before he passed away. Before he passed, he had gained 10 pounds, played chase with me in the yard, went on walks, and sat in front of the TV every night on the floor where I combed out his beautiful coat. I just sat here and cruised down memory lane with just the best of memories.

That’s funny Jackie! Memory lane for me, too. I have not seen an actual Afghan Hound since  I was a child. Our neighbor back then owned one and that was such a majestic sight to behold. I never realized until just now that I have not seen a single one since then and that was a good 35 years ago. I assume they went out of fashion?

Guardian of Manni the Wonderdog. -Or was it the other way around?
Osteo and amputation in Dec 2015. Second, inoperable, primary osteosarcoma found in June 2017.
The end of our adventures came Dec 10, 2017. 2 years to the day.

They are out there, but they are high maintenance and expensive. They are tough to train, not because they aren't smart but more because they are hard headed lol. Rajah had gone to "charm school" and he was just a love. He stood straight and still while we groomed, not the norm lol. They have to go faithfully every 5 weeks or so for a bath and trim. Many keep them in the "puppy cut" that was in the first picture because they snarl just like our hair if they go uncombed for more than a couple of days, and they do not shed. You have to take a lot of time with them, I imagine that's why they are not such a popular breed. It's ok, I love them anyways heart
