hello!
I am new so please be kind. I am considering adopting a tripod cat who will have the front leg amputated. However, my current lease would like me to have a cat declawed due to new carpeting. I know that is a horrible process and I don’t agree, but had to make compromises for the lease.
I was just curious to see the scratching habits of front leg amputees, in the event I could say that his habits are different due to the amputation.
Any feedback is welcome!
Hi and welcome! Thanks for joining and considering this Trikitty. How old is the cat? And why the amputation?
I don’t have any answers but will do some research in the AM. For now I wanted to get your first post approved so others can chime in. Hang tight!

Hello and Welcome,
I am asking that you PLEASE educate yourself thoroughly before considering this. Declawing is amputation of toes/knuckles; it's not what it appears to be removing nails.
The landlord having this law tells me it doesn't matter if you have one less leg it won't make a difference what you say. Declawing would be putting this kitty thru another amputation. Five joints would be cut off.

Thank you Holly, this is important information and spot-on. Many states are banning declawing now, and I'm all in favor of those new laws.
From my own personal experience, a declawed cat I once 'inherited' was a complete mental train wreck. She had so many issues and I can only attribute it to her being declawed at a very young age. I would never recommend it.
As much as I would love to see a Tripawd kitty adopted, if your landlord is of the old-school mindset then perhaps you can check with rescues to find an adoptable declawed cat looking for a home?

Ohhhhhh! YAY! That is wonderful! Bravo!
Well yeah, I can't think of an argument that would help convince your landlord, unfortunately. Maybe you could just pull the ol' "But she's only got three legs!" sympathy card and show a photo of her?

I just want to say what a wonderful human Soul you are! To want to give this kitty a home and to do it in a way that is in her best interest is true lpving kindness.
I DO hope you can convince the landlord that a cat with one front leg cannot easily damage a rug. Maybe you could even tell him you will put carpet runners (cheap) on all the kitty's paths to help protect the carpet. You'll have scratching posts, etc.
I hope this can be figured out because clearly this kitty would be so lucky to have you as his furever hooman❤❤❤
