Hi! I’m looking for tips on reintroducing a cat who has gone through an amputation to our other cat. Surgery was two weeks ago and we’ve gotten the ok to give our tripod free reign of the house again. Our other cat is not happy about it and has been hissing at and chasing him. Some googling tells me what’s happening is “non recognition aggression” by our 4-legged cat. How do we help her recognize him again and get used to his new form? Is she really never going to “recognize” him again as he’s never going to look the same as he did before surgery? Thanks!

Hi and Welcome,

I agree with your google searching kudos for doing your research.
We have links posted in a couple of forums. You follow the same steps as you would for introducing a new kitty to the home.

How Did You Prepare Your Other Cats for the New TriKitty?

2 nd post and as you can see all members do things differently and not all members have issues, but YES some do. We did!

Need help for my new tripawd foster cat with agression

From our own experiences, it took a good month before Purrkins (front leg amp) and his littermate brother were back to getting along. Cats are funny little buggers on recognition we would all love to understand cats. Take a look at the links (bookmark them/print them) in those forums and follow the steps listed and I believe this will help you find peace in the house again.

Best of luck I hope to hear things are back to a new normal in a few weeks to a month. It's no fun for anyone in the house.

Hugs and scratches to the kitties, please
Holly & Purrkins
