It's been 4.5 months since Jack passed away. It took a couple of months to adjust, but by July, I was missing caring for an animal. I started putting much more energy into volunteering with a local cat rescue and TNR group and have fostered a dozen cats and kittens since then. My latest is a tripawd which makes me happier than I can say.
Daisy Moonpie is 3 months post car accident and 1 month post amputation. She's ~8 months old and the amputation seems to have healed well, but her hip was badly broken and is still healing. I took her on today in order to give her more one-on-one attention and possibly PT.
I've poked around and can't find anyone else who has dealt with a rear leg amputation + broken hip with a cat. I'd love to benchmark her progress a bit. Is it normal that her hip is still very low when walking at this point? Any advice on how to approach PT when the hip is still healing?
I would love to take her to a specialist, but my organization is completely out of cash at the moment. We had a very rough summer with many serious injuries and emergency cases showing up in our neighborhood. Any advice this lovely group has would be appreciated.
Welcome back. A Tripawd kitty. Yay I am glad you came back.. Maybe you will adopt another one 🙂 a dog next. I don't know anything about cats as it has been years since i had one and not tripawds. I am sure that one of our kitty experts will be hopping on soon. Just wanted to say welcome back

Purrkins is a front leg amputee but I can direct you to some great downloads on rehab to do at home. I'm sorry I have no idea on the approach with the hip.

Thank you both for the links. All were helpful.
Seeing Feta's PT sessions showed me that Daisy isn't walking in the way the therapist is trying to train Feta - her back leg is rotated strongly outward and is not fully weight-bearing. I'm going to watch her over the coming days, but we may have to get her to a PT somehow. I'm concerned about encouraging her to bear more weight on a hip that is healing, but I also don't want her to get stuck walking in a form that puts her at risk for more pain later on. She's young and an investment will be worth it.
Huck is right rear amp. Traumatic injury. His"hop" is magnified but it's just "his normal". His left foot does not jut out. His femur was broken into 2 pieces. Don't ask, he was feral and if i knew who did this i'd prolly be arrested.
If he feels the need to run, you almost miss that he's got three and not 4.
