Heya! I've had my kitten since August, he's a year old now, and he is a rear leg amputee! I was wondering if there was advice on how to keep his ear clean? The side that has the leg has a clean ear, but the other one is dirty and funky and I don't think he likes that but there isn't much he can do! Any suggestions? I cant figure out how to add a pic of him or I would!

Just did a quick google search on "how to clean a cat's ear" and found ample video tutorials.   The main things  pointed out were to use a cleaner  for cats recommend  by your Vet and to  wrap your cat in a towel to help  hold him.

It is necessary  for rear leg dogs and cats to have their hooman help keep their ears clean on the amp side.  Another thing is to periodically  give your cat a good "scratch" all up and down the amp aide where no leg to do that.

As far as adding a picture, I'll be more than happy to post it for you.  I"ll send you my email address  in a PM to you.   In the meantime,  here is a link for adding pictures. adding images

Let us  know if the videos on You Tube help, okay?

Hugs

Hi and Welcome; what is your kitten's name?

If the ear is really bothering him, yes, make an appt to see the vet.
If it is just a mild buildup. You can clean his ear using a product for cat ears, as Sally has directed you.💖 no different than a four-leg cat in cleaning ears.

We have used Zymox &  Douxo Micellar Solution, both recommended by our vet. Cats don't love getting drops in their ear, and it feels funny, just like it does us humans, so don't freak out if he shakes his head and runs off afterward. Once they get used to it, it becomes an easier task.

Put drops in the ear and or wipe the ear out. Both might be needed. I'm not sure how dirty the ear is. If you have more buildup, it can be an allergy, ear mites, etc., and the vet might need to take a look!!!

And yes, our job is to care for that ear and help with any scratches they cannot reach.

Here's a video for you! The same instructions apply for both three and four-legged cats!

I second the recommendation for Zymox, that's good stuff! Dogs don't like getting stuff in their ears either, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Normally you don't have to do it too often. If there's excessive build-up yes, get your vet to check it out.

Can't wait to see a photo! Welcome!
