…want to consider having a biopsy done of the leg post-op and they can really give you a good idea on what type of cancer is there.  Low Level Chondrosarcoma has a much better outlook than Osteosarcoma and it can give you ideas on what treatment plans you want to pursue.

It's such a hard decision to

….  Everyone of us, on tripawds.com, who have bonded together to help each other makes this one of the greatest website's on earth.  Osteosarcoma, chondrosarcoma, mast cell tumors, etc., they're all very ugly sounding words for even worse diseases that rob us of our beloved fur-babies and the

…I am so very sorry to hear about Buster's lung mets!  It is true that chondrosarcoma rarely metastasizes but maybe there was also an osteosarcoma component that was missed on the biopsy.

I have been doing research on the metronomic protocol and most vet schools and oncologists are not

Also, what kind of cancer has been diagnosed? We have confirmed Chondrosarcoma and the biopsy of the amputated leg will tell the rest of the story. In a perfect world, and all Mommy and Daddy want for Christmas is that the…

…biopsy comes back that it was low grade Chondrosarcoma and the amputation will have taken care of it. The worst case is there is some of that evil Osteosarcoma in there and we'll procede with chemo and enjoy each day we have left with our girl.

I know it's hard, utilize the forums. Even getting to

…. Kim, I really hope Tika, and you, are doing well today. Please let us know how you're both doing.  I am very concerned about her having Osteosarcoma as well.  We both know the prognosis for Chondrosarcoma alone is better for a longer life. I pray that both Tika and Coda have only Chondrosarcoma.

Pam, thank you for your insight about amputation being the only real treatment for an elbow.  My doctor told me the same thing, however,

…Hi Karena and Coda:

I'm so sorry, right now we are on parallel paths, we just got our diagnosis for Chondrosarcoma in our Malamute (Tika) right rear leg.

We amputate on Tuesday, I've been spending the weekend prepping the house and starting to get Tika used…

… be sure to have Coda's leg sent to be full biopsied after amputation.  Our oncologist delivered the sobering news that 50% of the time when Chondrosarcoma is found in the joint and bone, there's also Osteosarcoma present. If the Chondrosarcoma is localized to the cartilage, the odds are better,

…I am very sorry that your dog has been diagnosed with chondrosarcoma.  It is true that the elbow is not a "normal" site for this type of tumor, but the biopsy results are probably accurate.  At…

We have confirmed chondrosarcoma in her rear leg and we'll be waiting for the biopsy results also after the amputation to see if there's a chance of osteosarcoma also.

I have

By the way, Malamute Extradonaire's name is Nordiclight's Tikaani Spirit--aka Tika. (Tikaani is Athabascan

…left knee(one wasn't done properly...diffe rent vet than one I am seeing now). I think that caused him bone trauma and contributed toward the Osteosarcoma

Titan : Not to sound dumb what would the neutering and spaying do. I had Titan done at 6 months what do they consider early

…i saved his eye & lost his leg..

tazziedog : These giant guys have always been prone to bone cancer. The Mastiff club has funded a study for osteosarcoma. I am not sure about bullmastiffs but if Titan has an AKC # he might be eligible. You just need to donate a blood tube for his DNA

tazziedog : Cisplatin was used prior to carboplatin but can damage the kidneys so isn't used much anymore

OKim1 : ok thank u...

tazziedog : Chondrosarcoma spreads much slower than osteo so an xray every 3-6 months is reasonable.

Titan : Pam we have gone this far so whats another couple of hundred

…I wish we knew more about chondrosarcoma too. So sorry ... with osteosarcoma, it's not a matter of if it will come back, but when. In fact, I just got chest x-rays that show a large mass in my lung. But it has been a year…
