… I looked up Kylie's X Ray report and found the possible diagnoses they gave us.

"Conclusion

1. Aggressive bone of the one femur (85% chance of osteosarcoma, 15% chance of one of chondrosarcoma, fibrosarcoma of bone or hemangiosarcoma of bone"

So there is a chance my girl does have the same fibrosarcoma

How well did your large breed dog adapt to losing a hind leg?

Has anyone else dealt with a chondrosarcoma? My understanding is that we have a better shot of getting rid of the cancer for good, but I am trying to read up on it and there just isn't a ton…

Thanks!

…concerns that you want cleared up before going ahead with the procedure!!

I did not mention previously, that my vet originally assumed Jerry had osteosarcoma, but the biopsy returned as chondrosarcoma. He explained to me that while the amputation surgery removed all of the tumor, this diagnosis (chondrosarcoma) meant that it could reoccur at a later date (30% chance). Now, I unfortunately tend to be negative, but I surprised myself after he told me this

…-

My name is Hattie and my 14/15 year old male DSH cat was diagnosed with an osteosarcoma in June of this year after a golf ball sized lump appeared on his shoulder blade almost literally overnight. He was presenting no other symptoms of…

…it super early and it had not spread.

My cat (Jerry) had the amputation surgery a few days later. The biopsy showed it was actually not an osteosarcoma, but a chondrosarcoma (cartilage cancer). Anyway, Jerry came home with a ton of meds including Onsior. I gave him his dose and the very next day,

…The bone biopsy didn't confirm the x-ray diagnosis, but the vet insisted and we pursued a CT-Scan with aspirate that showed cells "compatible with" osteosarcoma but didn't rule out chondrosarcoma.  We could have gone ahead with the amputation several months before.  Fortunately we were blessed with a good

…Dr. Morgan & Tripawds,

Osa, our 13 year old beautiful girl, has a tumor in her pelvis that was discovered on Tuesday. We suspect it is Chondrosarcoma, but are most likely not going to have a biopsy to rule out Osteosarcoma. At this point, we just want our baby to enjoy every day to the fullest

… all - So the vet has come back with a diagnosis of chondrosarcoma, though they are not 100% sure. It's definitely cancer, but because of her continued good health, they think it's something slower than osteosarcoma

…used to having just one back leg, Lula's personality came back entirely. We're extremely happy.

The biopsy of the tumor in her knee came back as Chondrosarcoma, not the much more common osteosarcoma. Chondrosarcoma is less aggressive in terms of spreading, and that diagnosis, combined with a clean CAT scan

…for your region, but not as much for vets here. I can only tell you about what the typical course of action is here in the U.S. when it comes to osteosarcoma, which is the type of cancer we dealt with in our Jerry. The options most vets here will give are:

If it is almost 100% certain that the tumor…

…is osteosarcoma, and the dog is a good candidate for surgery (no major medical issues), amputate immediately. Osteo is very, very painful. Dogs hide their pain…

…saving your dog from an extra surgery, and you from the additional expense. You might want to read up on Mac's story. Their vet also thought he had chondrosarcoma, and it turns out he has osteo.

Your dog sounds like she is in good shape and can tolerate amputation. If all of the vets agree that she can live

…....today I am sad and frustrated. When we did the bone biopsy they told us the results showed that it is most likely Chondrosarcoma but they can't rule out osteosarcoma due to the small sample size. For 2k, we thought that was crazy, but because of the better odds, we would go…

…for the surgery.

Last night the doctor told us the results from the biopsy of the leg showed that it is, in fact, Osteosarcoma.

We honestly feel cheated and like we got run around with our money. The bone biopsy was useless and a joke. We weren't going to do the surgery

…when the vet pushed her thumb into Mac's shoulder and he yelped in pain. She took him back for x-rays and came back to tell me she thought it was osteosarcoma. Grief stricken, I went with the vet's advice to do the bone biopsy. The bone biopsy was inconclusive, since they only take a small piece of bone,…

… and the radiologist suspects it is Chondrosarcoma, instead of Osteosarcoma. The odds are slightly better, but the cancer acts in the same way.

We had the same thought process as you - if amputating his leg did not mean…

…blog (http://teammac......pawds.com/) - it might help you to see some pics! There are many dogs on this website who were diagnosed with osteosarcoma and lived a happy 2 more years of life. I know you will find some comfort in speaking with some of these wonderful tripawd parents.

…and no improvement, I asked for x-rays so we could move forward with any orthopedic referrals and necessary ligament surgery. Wouldn't you know? Osteosarcoma. Devastating. The tumor was in his tibia in the right-rear leg.

It's almost like I knew it would be that from the moment he started limping. I…

….

Finally, the day of our appointment came. A more sensitive, 3D x-ray didn't detect anything in his lungs, and a biopsy confirmed cancer, either osteosarcoma (most likely) or chondrosarcoma (remote possibility). Amputation was scheduled for the next day, pending a clear CT scan. At home, Max

…injury that might need surgery. No, this was much worse. She came into the room and told me Mac likely has a bone tumor, specifically most likely osteosarcoma, and will need a bone biopsy the following day to confirm, and to make sure it wasn't this fungus.

The vet we saw that day, and who did the…

…went to see an oncology specialist in LA. She had the results of the bone biopsy and to my great relief, it appears he has the 'less severe' cancer, chondrosarcoma. It is still terrible, and still acts very similarly to osteosarcoma, but the chances of it metastasizing are much less (50% vs. 80%).

She

…so much now but can still tell its "thicker" so its what put chondro in her mind too.

The two types of cancer my regular vet is considering is osteosarcoma and chondrosarcoma.  We are headed to MSU Wednesday morning for a consult.  I had planned to do biopsy but read the other post(s) that its…

…painful and tough recovery so may reconsider...  But I really want to know.  If its osteosarcoma, chances are we would just do palliative care.  If its chondrosarcoma, chances are we would do amputation because it has a better prognosis.  Yes,

…on Saturday for an appt with our usual vet, the soonest of which was today (7/22).  After a weekend of research, I was convinced she had either osteosarcoma or chondrosarcoma.  We had x-rays taken today.  The bone looks great, but the soft tissues look to be effected and she highly suspects

Did the docs mention the possibility of bisphosphonates for pain relief?

As you know, your situation is different than most. When osteosarcoma or another bone cancer is in the spine, what we've seen here in stories like Jake's is that it tends to affect the body much faster than when it's in

Luna has osteosarcoma. She is getting carboplatin.  Here is what I have tried to save as my signature:

So far she has done alright.  She cried for quite a

…fibrosarcoma or chondrosarcoma.  I won't be able to talk to the oncologist until next week, but everything I've read suggests that Chondrosarcoma rarely spreads and that amputation can effectively "cure" it.  Fibrosarcoma, I read, can reoccur at the site but often does not spread either.
