My 9-year-old Mini Schnauzer needs to have her left hind leg amputated (soon) due to a metatastizing Mast Cell Tumor in a difficult spot. I need to get her the surgery as soon as possible, but her Oncologist quoted me 4-5K. I just want to "shop around" for a couple days. Does anyone have a recommendation in the NYC area?

I don't live in NYC but we've had many members who have and do. The #1 hospital I would go to if I needed to in NYC would be the Animal Medical Center (AMC), especially if my case involved a tumor in a tough spot. Their oncologists have outstanding reputations, and we've even had two on here for interviews on our podcast.

What did the quote include? Was that just for surgery or including others things like pathology and chemo?
Money is always a concern so you shouldn't feel badly about looking for lower costs. Just keep in mind that you need to compare apples to apples when doing so. This article explains more:

I'm in CA so I can't help you with your vet search, but Tri-Pug Maggie lost her left back leg to a MCT way back in 2006. Although cancerous mast cells were found in the lymph node removed with her leg she lived for almost 4 years and did not pass from mast cell cancer.

I wholeheartedly second the recommendation for Animal Medical Center in NYC! Griffin was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and the quality of the care he received from them has been top-notch from the start. Our surgeon is Dr. Daniel Spector. He is AMAZING with communication - calling me twice a day when Griffin was in the hospital and checking in via email daily since Griffin came home. Dr. Spector used internal, dissoluble stitches so that we would not have to return to AMC just to have stitches removed. Griffin's incision is healing very quickly and he was off all pain medications after a week.
Griffin has an oncologist appointment at AMC in a week and a physical therapy consult the week after - I'll return to update my post once those appointments have happened.
Griffin lived an amazing life for 11 years! Diagnosed with osteosarcoma on March 17, 2020, Griffin's right forelimb was amputated on April 2, 2020. Ten days later he was running and playing fetch! Lung metastasis discovered in July 2020 did not slow down Griffin and he lived joyfully for the next 7 months, passing peacefully at home on February 11, 2021. https://griffin.tripawds.com
