Hi there... I just purchased the ruffware harness for Jake... But I was wondering if anyone out there had a swimming harness... large size (34" girth) that they weren't using anymore... We definitely can't afford both...

Jake's Mom

Jake, 10yr old golden retriever (fractured his front right leg on 9/1, bone biopsy revealed osteosarcoma on 9/10, amputation on 9/17) and his family Marguerite, Jacques and Wolfie, 5yr old german shepherd and the newest addition to the family, Nala, a 7mth old Bengal mix kittie. Jake lost his battle on 11/9/2009, almost 8 weeks after his surgery. We will never forget our sweet golden angel… http://jakesjou.....ipawds.com ….. CANCER SUCKS!

I did a google search and found that REI (http://www.rei.com) has the float coat on sale for $40 (the large size - originally $70).

Thanks for the link! I hope it's still available and on sale in a couple of weeks, when I finally have a few extra bucks to purchase it. I'm still going to have Jake swimming in the pool before we get it... I'll just be sure to help him not flip over! Laugh

Do you know if he could wear the ruffware harness in the pool? Will getting it wet damage it? I just want to have that extra support while helping him get in and out of the pool.

Caira has been swimming many times in her ruffwear harness . Sometimes she doesn't always wait for the lifejacket! It has been in freshwater and in salty baywater and in the ocean. It has been fine. I wash it on cold and set it outside to dry. The only issue I had when it gets wet is the straps need readjusted because they loosen. Shouldn't be a problem if you are right there! I LOVE the ruffwear harness . The construction of it is amazing and the handle will help the smallest person lift a sizable dog.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the info Mary and Caira Sue! Jake gets his staples removed tomorrow, and I'm hoping his vet gives him the go-ahead to start swimming this weekend. He will be soooooo happy!!! Laugh And you can be sure I'll be posting the pictures and videos on Jake's blog!! Wink

Oh yeah, I swam with mine all the time! Mom liked how she could jump in the water and help me come to shore if I needed it (which I rarely did!).

Can't wait to see you swimming Jake, we know you'll have a ball!
