Kathi - I can totally use my phone to Facetime you in! You have an Iphone, right? I am happy to do that for anyone! 🙂 But that's about as technological as I get. I guess I could use the ipad too. I'll bring both!

As far as heartworm meds ... I was just reading up on it and now I am worried that Jasper SHOULD be on heartworm meds - even in Southern CA. We had SO much rain this year and I know that is breeding ground for mosquitoes ... I must find a new vet. I think mine thinks I am loco when I request stuff like this where it hasn't always been a need. I recall last summer seeing way more mosquitoes than I ever have and I was worried about zika!!!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Alison-no iPhone, but I have an iPad. That means the pictures will be bigger!

Kathi

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!

UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!

Hey Alison,

For a little perspective, I have pulled one tick off of myself in 15 years and found one crawling on the girls once in 15 years.  We aren't the avid hikers we once were, but we are out and about and that is the frequency.  I just don't want you worrying that ticks are everywhere and you are going to be covered.

😉  Karma

Adelaide is a young tripawd Husky, from an injury.  Her amp was on 10/1/12.  She has 4 sisters, Aissa (a senior border collie/chow), Maggie May (a puppy Great Pyrenees), Mathilde and Morrigan and 1 baby brother, Bagheera.  We are all watched over by our angel Brendol, who was dx with OSA 1/30/13, amp on 2/6/13, and left us on 8/20/13.

All my dogs going back to Maggie have been on heartworm meds (almost 18 years), I live near San Francisco.  There are lots of heartworm positive dogs in rescues around here.  It used to be that is was a 'just in case' med, but I know there are HW+ cases locally.

The party sounds like it is really coming together!  My current living situation means I can't travel that far, but I look forward to all the pictures and stories!

No kidding. Meg is an absolute FIEND for ticks. It's something about her soft undercoat makes it easy for them to latch on, and the fact she loves nothing more than to rootle through the undergrowth. We used to spend every Summer in the mountains of North Wales, and I would be taking six or seven off Meg after almost every walk. She was on anti-tick meds but that didn't stop them attaching, though I think it does kill them before they can transmit any nasties. I used to pull them off anyway, using an O Tom tick twister. The one really effective way I found to stop them attaching in the first place was a Scalibor collar, but they are pretty toxic and some dogs react badly to them. Elsie (and Billie before her) was far less prone to ticks, though I have still removed several from her (and two from myselfwhat-ever) None of us has ever suffered any problem as a consequence of being bitten – Lyme disease is still pretty rare in the UK, though it is on the increase. Alison, I am happy to volunteer as Jasper's official Tick Inspector... oh-my

Thanks, Sally, as ever, for your fabulous enthusiasm big-grin big-grin big-grin I cannot believe we're going to meet. Just cannot believe it. The whole thing feels like a dream. And ditto re everyone who can't be there. You will absolutely be with us in our hearts and thoughts and let's sort the FaceTime thing out. RubyRoo, I assume you do FaceTime???

I do hope the Tribute Leash will be there ... I am planning on finally doing one for Shelby... And I can be responsible for it ... and personally hand deliver it back to Karen if she wants! It would make a lovely photo for Clare's article too!

I am beyond excited about how well this is coming together ... And even more excited that Clare will get to experience a couple hours with Jasper in the car while we navigate our way to y'all in Richmond! XOOXheartheartheart

THANKS MARTHA AND KAREN!!!

Here's a thread Karen started explaining the history of the Tripawd Trivute Leash. It's for anyone currently on the journey, as well as those who have transitioned to the Rainbow Bridge.

Being in the presence of the Tripawd Tribute Leash is quite magical. The presence of everyone kn that leash is definitely felt.
