We live in the far East San Francisco Bay area-really between San Francisco and Sacramento. We would love to meet other Tripawds in our area! Caira just got through 2 weeks post amputation and is starting to go back out on the town. Any tips, places, ideas, meeting places….let me know!

Thanks!

I'm in Livermore…where are you?

Surely there's a dog park somewhere between us!

Yaaahooo! Funny, I was just mentioning to Cherry's Dad, Bob, that you guys live there (they live in Livermore!). And Codie Rae lives in Oakland. I think it would be awesome if you had a Bay Area Tripawds get together!

Yes, yes, yes! We must, must, must! Now, now, now! Or, maybe when it gets a little cooler, 'cause I am really really hot today! Or, maybe somewhere where there is water! A dog park with water–that'd be screamin'! I'll bring my float coat!

I'll ask my friend JJ if she knows anywhere good in the Livermore area. WoooHooo you guys!

Montana our tripawd and us live in Sacramento, we love to get together, One place we could all meet is in the Marin Headlands at Cronkite beach just north of The Golden Gate Bridge, they are very dog friendly. We were there last summer and it is cool not hot.

We have Santa Rosa, Livermore, Oakland and Sacramento! Awesome!

I'm not sure of anyplace very big between Livermore and Pittsburg, although I'm sure there are some.

I think Marin Headlands (never been to Cronkite Beach) or Pt. Isabel would be nice during the heat. Caira Sue LOVES Pt. Isabel, but I haven't been there since her amp. as she used to run the rocks and dive in the water. I would like to take her someplace a little tamer first to see how she does with the water. How is Cronkite Beach? We were planning on driving up to Dillon Beach this weekend. It's a very easy walk across beach to the water, and it's very clean. If Cronkite Beach is the same, maybe we will try there, as it's a lot closer to home!

Then when the weather gets cooler we could meet further east-if we want. It would be great to have a Bay area tripawds group!

Okay…I have next Saturday, the 22nd, and the following one, the 29th, open.  Cronkite Beach sounds fine although I've never been there.  Shall we bring lunch and try to eat and talk at the same time, or meet after lunch?

Depending on what you want to do Cronkite is not the greatest dog beach–the beach drops off pretty steeply, there are big waves and strong currents. Not safe for canine swimmers. Dillon beach looks alot better but is also technically dogs on leash and would also be pretty hard for some people to get to(?)

What about Lake Del Valle? Yeah it would be hot, and those of you from the hot spots would probably much rather go to the beach but it might be more convenient for more people (?) and there is lots of water. We are gonna go check it out on Sunday–we have never been. It looks like there might be some great spots for swimming that would be legal and off-leash. Plus places to picnic. I think we should try for a picnic! We will give y'all a full report of the possibilities. If anyone who has been knows more about the situation there please let us know–we are just checking it out on Google Earth tonight but will go ground thruthing on Sunday unless somebody tells us the place sucks!

I am leaning towards someplace where the pups can be off leash bc Codie Rae is a pill on leash. But that certainly will not be the deciding factor.

We are available Aug. 29th/30, and Sept 5th/6 (but that is Labor day weekend and everything will be insane), and 12th/13th.

Do the folks from farther away have a preference? Beach vs lake?

Hey Martha!  Since I'm in Livermore, Del Valle would be very convenient for me.  I haven't been there for years, so let us know what you think after you've seen it.  I hope there's an off-leash area.

I vote for skipping the insanity of Labor Day weekend; Cemil and I are available Aug 29 or Sept 12 or 13.

Aug 29th or Sept 12th is fine with us! We went to Dillon beach today (see blog). I've never once seen anything about leashing dogs. Everyone there is pretty good about keeping their dogs leashed until they are in a decent area-but then they are running all over the place playing and swimming leash-free. It was quite windy and cool there today! Maybe too windy for some people. Always something to think about!

I've never been to that Lake. Let us know what you think!

Soooo,

We went to Lake Del Valle today.  The easily accessible beaches are off limits to dogs Mad. Dogs can be off leash everywhere but developed areas and swimming beaches and there are other beaches but they are quite a hike (~ 1 mi from the parking lot)–not so great for some tripawds most likely. I am fresh out of ideas for the Livermore area, which I thought would be a good meeting place.

Any other ideas? Dillon Beach is sounding better all the time but is a long way from Sacramento! Marin CoOunty has a leash law but, according to Caira Sue, it does not appear to be vigorously enforced. Can anyone think of a better in-between Sacramento and San Francisco meeting place?
