Just curious what others have been told is the acceptable Neutrophil level to adminster chemo.
Rocky was scheduled for his fifth round of Carbo today, but his Neutrophil was at 2800. His oncologist was comfortable treating him, but she had told me in the past she preferred it to be above 3000. I'm probably being overly protective, but I decided to push it out a week to let his count get higher.

Rocky had his right front leg amputated on Valentine's Day 2017 after being diagnosed with osteosarcoma.
He joined the September Saints on September 3, 2017.

I think "normal" starts at around 2000, so she probably just wanted your pup a bit further into the safe zone?
My dog Izzy's had neutropenia twice now. The first time was after her initial CCNU dose, after which they simply adjusted (lowered) it so it wouldn't happen again and also put her on antibiotics. She has neutropenia again now after combining Vinblastine and Palladia, so we just started another round of meds but she is still scheduled for her vinblastine dose on Thursday and takes Palladia every other day. She's very old but is doing great!
I don't blame you for being protective of your baby and if the vet agreed, she was obviously comfortable waiting a week as well so don't fret about it. Wish I could give you concrete numbers but I'm just a dog mom, not a vet!

Hi! I am not a vet, but my dog has experienced neutropenia several times (vinblastine & CCNU alternating tx's).
My oncologist vet said the lowest the WBC's can be to be able to do treatment was around either 2,000 or 2,500 (I cannot remember the exact # sorry!!). My girl's pattern is her WBCs always drop down the week after tx (even since they lowered her doses), but her count goes up the day of her treatments thankfully. She is on prophylaxis antibiotics after each treatment for the neutropenia.
However, it is ultimately your decision & what you feel comfortable with & what your vet has told you. Always be an advocate for your sweet pup! 🙂

We ended up waiting a week and it went back up to just under 9,000 for his fifth treatment. Since it's been a tad low before his fourth and fifth treatments, his oncologist and I decided to wait four weeks before his sixth and final treatment.
He woke me up panting in the middle of the night after his fifth treatment, but was back to himself later the next day. Otherwise, he hasn't had any problems with the chemo.
